We are seeking a SITE SAFETY MANAGER to support a major power generation project in Creston, Iowa. This project includes the installation of four GE gas-fired turbines and associated balance-of-plant infrastructure.  The Site Safety Manager will deliver site safety training to all employees, provide technical safety guidance to project leadership, and ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations.
This position will also support the continued growth of Sargent Electric's De Pere, Wisconsin office.
This is a W2 role, including a per diem, if applicable, and a company vehicle.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Lead and administer the project-specific health and safety program.
  • Serve as the primary safety resource for project leadership, field personnel, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Deliver site-specific safety orientation, training, and ongoing workforce development initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, client requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Conduct routine field observations, site inspections, and compliance audits to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Support incident investigations, determine root causes, and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development and review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and safe work plans.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, employee engagement, and behavior-based safety initiatives.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and provide regular feedback and reporting to project and regional leadership.
  • Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and targeted training programs.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure safety considerations are integrated into all phases of construction.
  Any additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Sargent Electric Management.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience, preferably within the electrical contracting, utility, renewable energy, power generation, or heavy industrial construction industries.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety regulations, hazard recognition, and risk mitigation practices, with the ability to identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards, NFPA 70E, and other applicable safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively partnering with project leadership, field personnel, subcontractors, and clients to promote a positive safety culture.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence behaviors and build credibility across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and the ability to prepare reports, safety documentation, and training materials.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification, or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must successfully pass all pre-employment screenings, including but not limited to background checks, motor vehicle record review, drug and alcohol testing, site-specific security requirements, and any other testing required as a condition of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Electrical construction experience preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience in a safety-related role within the electrical contracting, power generation, utility, or construction industry.
  • Professional safety certifications such as CHST, OSHA 500, OSHA 510, CSP, ASP, or equivalent are preferred.
  • Utility, substation, transmission, power generation, renewable energy, or solar construction experience.
  • Experience working in a union construction environment and familiarity with union craft operations.
  • Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish preferred).
  • Experience conducting safety training, incident investigations, safety audits, and root cause analyses.
  • Knowledge of behavior-based safety programs and proactive safety engagement initiatives.
