Our Health, Safety & Environment group is currently growing and is looking to add a Site Safety Advisor to the team, supporting a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) construction site in Jarvis, ON.

Reporting to the Regional Safety Supervisor, this position provides in person support to supervisors, foremen and workers in the field and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements on-site.  It monitors, audits and reports findings and corrective actions to leadership as well as provides administrative assistance with matters relating to safety.  Ultimately, it plays an important role in ensuring that Valard’s safety culture has been established and adhered to in the field.

Please Note: this position works a schedule of Monday - Friday; 10 hours / day based on-site outside of Jarvis, ON.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be a visible presence and safety resource in the field to ensure a safe work environment for all Valard employees, contractors, and visitors as per the Site Safety Management Plan (SMP)
  • Facilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes and prepare weekly / monthly safety reports
  • Provide support to the supervisors and foreman to ensure that JSAs are developed and reviewed with the crews and available at the work site
  • Apply and reinforce the requirements of Valard's Health, Safety and Environmental Manual across all field activities
  • Communicate, coach and assist field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are met
  • Participate and assist the supervisors and foreman in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions
  • Participate in regular meetings with project safety teams to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events to ensure safety obligations are carried out as per client agreement and communicated to the Project Manager and Supervisors
  • Review tailboards daily to ensure that hazards are addressed, and a mitigation process is in place; provide feedback to workers to assist them for compliance
  • Perform observations, inspections, emergency preparedness drills, as per the current HS&E Manual and review and communicate the findings via safety meetings and postings
  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation, and applicable standards and inform Project Manager(s) of any relevant changes

Requirements
  • Post-Secondary education in a Safety-related field
  • 3 years’ experience in a field safety position
    • A combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience with Microsoft office applications
  • Experience dealing with client requirements and providing administrative assistance with matters relating to safety
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

  • NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer Certification), CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Technician) or other Health & Safety certification
  • Demonstrated familiarity with applicable provincial legislations
  • Root cause investigation experience

This position offers an hourly rate of $35 - $45, depending on experience and qualifications.
