We are a culture that obsesses over impact, challenges, and drives what’s next to power infinite possibilities for our customers, colleagues and society at large.

About the Role:

The Site Reliability Engineer ensures the reliability, availability, performance, and scalability of Wiley’s software systems. Working as part of the technology team, you will use monitoring, automation, and incident-management practices to improve system stability and support efficient software delivery. You will apply your developing knowledge of site reliability engineering to resolve operational issues and implement established solutions. Working under moderate guidance, you will collaborate with development and operations teams while building a broader understanding of Wiley’s infrastructure, systems, and business needs.

How will you make an impact:
  • Monitor system availability, performance, capacity, and reliability using established observability tools, dashboards, and alerts.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code solutions to reduce manual operational tasks and improve consistency.
  • Support continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, collaborating with development teams to improve build and deployment processes.
  • Respond to and resolve system incidents by following established procedures, participating in on-call rotations, and contributing to post-incident reviews.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues by applying knowledge of system architecture, operational practices, previous experience, and established precedents.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to improve system performance, minimise technology risk, and deliver reliable solutions that support team and business objectives.

What we are looking for:
  • Practical knowledge of site reliability engineering, systems engineering, DevOps, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience monitoring software systems using observability, logging, or performance-monitoring tools.
  • Experience developing automation scripts using an appropriate scripting or programming language.
  • Working knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery practices and tools.
  • Understanding of incident management, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and post-incident review processes.
  • Ability to analyse technical problems and implement solutions using established procedures, sound judgement, and previous experience.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across development and operations teams.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Familiarity with container technologies and orchestration platforms such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience using infrastructure-as-code tools and frameworks.
  • Understanding of distributed systems, system capacity, scalability, and performance optimisation.
  • Experience supporting or improving build and deployment pipelines.
  • Interest in developing broader knowledge of cloud infrastructure and modern site reliability practices.
