Job Duties 

Yahoo Mail is seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) dedicated to engineering and maintaining highly available and scalable platforms in the cloud. In this role, you will be a key partner to architects and software developers, applying SRE principles to ensure the reliability and performance of services for Yahoo Mail's extensive user base.
 

As a vital member of the SRE team, your primary mission will be to support our production serving applications running in the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will be responsible for defining and maintaining service availability through robust monitoring, alerting, and the continuous enhancement of our observability stack. Your responsibilities will also include leading incident response as part of an on-call rotation, automating operational tasks to reduce toil, managing CI/CD pipelines for safe and frequent deployments, and developing resilient infrastructure as code (IaC). You will play a pivotal role in migrating large-scale on-prem applications to GCP, with a sharp focus on reliability, performance, and scalability from day one.
 

Skills and Qualifications 

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field. 

• A minimum of 3+ years of experience in supporting Site Reliability, DevOps, Infrastructure, and handling on-call duties within Cloud environments, with a preference for experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP). 

• Proven experience working with large-scale applications, computer systems, and networks. 

• Proficiency in Linux, TCP/IP, HTTP, MAIL protocols, DNS, content delivery networks (CDN), load balancers, and troubleshooting techniques. 

• Proficiency in managing GCP services, including Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Compute Engine (GCE), Networking, Security, CI/CD pipelines, and other common Cloud technologies. 

• Proficiency in constructing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Helm Charts. 

• Proficiency in programming using Shell, Python, or Go, with the ability to build CI/CD pipelines for deploying services in these languages. 

• Experience with the following is considered an advantage: 

  • Cloud databases and storage platforms, such as Storage Services (GCS), Cloud SQL, Spanner, and Firestore. 

  • Machine Learning and AI platforms, such as Vertex AI, Generative AI, BigQuery, Looker, and DataProc 

  • Cloud Observability and Cloud Logging
     

What makes you outstanding 

• You have a proven track record in migrating on-prem infrastructure to GCP.  

• You have years of operational experience in both On-prem and cloud environments 

• You are able to build the cloud services, including GKE and Spanner, from scratch using IaC (Terraform) and various build and CI/CD tools.  

• You can explain the technologies/architecture related to the data flow in mail delivery, web page serving, and high availability.

The compensation for this position ranges from $96,000.00 - $200,000.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
