Job Description

The Opportunity:

We, at Flywire, are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer II to join our team. In this role, you’ll help drive reliability, automation and performance within our cloud-based infrastructure. At Flywire, the SRE team is responsible for the lifecycle of production systems. Our team is developing systems and tooling for Software Engineering teams, enabling and empowering them to achieve full speed on shipping reliable and operable systems. We work at a global scale driving initiatives to achieve production excellence.

  • Design, build and maintain core infrastructure pieces with a focus on availability, latency, performance and capacity
  • Understand Infrastructure as Software and write testable and secure code
  • Dive into scalability and performance considerations in order to detect and solve scalability & performance Issues
  • From time-to-time, become embedded within an Engineering team helping them navigate production excellence and advocate for best practices
  • Engage and collaborate with other disciplines within the design, deployment, operation and optimization of services
  • Debug production issues across services and levels of the stack as well as practice incident response and blameless postmortems
  • Participate in an on-call shift along with other disciplines to respond to incidents

Qualifications

Here’s What We’re Looking For:

  • 2-4 years of experience within the SRE space
  • Comfortable with the idea of being or becoming a generalizing specialist as we are aiming to build a multidisciplinary and balanced team based on "t-shaped" individuals
  • Familiarity with the container ecosystem, AI landscape, cloud infrastructure, build systems and CI/CD tools is key for being successful at this role
  • Comfortable taking ownership of complex systems challenges and help uncover opportunities for improvement
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, and most importantly, empathy as we enable, empower and encourage our fellow colleagues

Skills Required

  • 2-4 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering
  • Familiarity with the container ecosystem (Docker), AI landscape, cloud infrastructure, build systems and CI/CD tools
  • Experience with Java and Go programming languages
  • Experience with AWS and GCP cloud platforms and managed services
  • Experience with Linux operating systems
  • Experience writing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and secure, testable code
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools (OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Sumologic)
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and incident response, perform blameless postmortems
  • Strong communication, collaboration skills and empathy
  • Comfortable being or becoming a generalizing specialist (T-shaped) and owning complex systems challenges
