Flowserve is seeking a hands-on, technically driven On-Site Applications Engineer to act as a dedicated reliability field resource for our contracted primary chemical and refining accounts in the Louisiana region.
Backed by a dedicated commercial sales engineer handling the account management, you will focus entirely on technical authority, execution, and plant uptime. You will spend your days bridging the gap between field diagnostics and engineering solutions—performing teardowns, executing failure analysis, and identifying upgrades directly at the plant level. Whether you are a recent engineering graduate looking for elite training or a tenured rotating equipment professional seeking a dedicated SME track, this seat provides direct visibility over the entire equipment lifecycle. Our Application Engineers successfully accelerate into diverse long-term career paths across Flowserve, including technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) tracks, people management, or strategic commercial sales engineering.
Core Responsibilities
- Root-Cause Field Engineering: Meticulously dismantle, clean, and inspect (DCI) failed pump and mechanical seal systems.
- Reliability Action Reporting: Conduct comprehensive failure analyses and compile data-driven product performance reports to justify equipment modifications or replacements to plant leadership.
- Cross-Functional Liaison: Serve as the on-site technical anchor, connecting the customer's operations directly with Flowserve’s internal reliability engineers, customer service, and manufacturing assets.
- System Standardization: Direct and manage the plant's mechanical seal standardization blueprints, tracking customer quality specs and resolving hardware variance.
- Bad Actor Tracking: Head up monthly "Bad Actor" review meetings with customer engineers to track chronic equipment failures and implement preventative multi-million dollar asset protections.
- Inventory Optimization: Monitor client parts and tooling stores, identifying reduction paths and component consolidations that maximize balance-sheet efficiency.
Required Qualifications & Sourcing Filters
- Educational Background: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), equivalent technical engineering degree, or applicable experience.
- Technical Aptitude: Foundational or deep operational understanding of rotating equipment dynamics, fluid systems, mechanical seals, and industrial pumps.
- Experience Baseline: All seniority tiers considered. We are fully equipped to provide complete structured training to entry-level grads or integrate mid-career engineers into the local framework. In-plant or process-intensive site experience is highly valued.
- Compliance & Site Mobility: Must possess or have the clear capability to secure standard heavy industrial badging prerequisites, including a valid driver's license, clear background screenings, and a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Physical Stamina: Comfort working in live chemical or refinery environments, including walking extensive sites and navigating industrial structures or staircases.
What We Offer
- Deep Product & Industry Training: Access to a multi-tiered technical onboarding framework with immediate support from veteran regional engineers to build your domain authority in mechanical seals and rotating infrastructure.
- True Subject Matter Expert (SME) Track: A transparent technical career roadmap designed to cultivate deep technical expertise without forcing you into a traditional people-management or commercial quota track.
- Relocation Flexibility: Open to supporting strategic relocation candidates looking to plant roots in the Geismar/Norco industrial corridor.
