Job Summary:
The Simulation Technology Specialist supports the delivery of high-quality simulation-based and clinical skills lab education within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, administrative and technical support of simulation and skills lab equipment and environments, as well as assisting faculty in the implementation of simulation scenarios that enhance student learning and clinical competency.
Essential Functions:
Simulation & Skills Lab Operations
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot high-fidelity simulation manikins, task trainers, and audiovisual systems
- Prepare and maintain skills lab stations for essential nursing skills
- Program simulation scenarios using simulation software platforms
- Ensure all simulation and skills lab equipment is functional, calibrated, and maintained
- Assists with simulation and skills lab scheduling, setup, and breakdown
- Maintain a realistic clinical environment across simulation and skills lab spaces
Faculty & Student Support
- Collaborate with faculty to prepare and implement simulation experiences
- Provide real-time technical and operational support during simulations
- Assist with scenario development and integration of course learning objectives
- Support debriefing sessions through operation of recording/playback systems
Lab & Resource Management
- Maintain inventory of simulation and skills lab supplies, equipment, and simulated medications
- Ensure simulation and skills labs meet safety, infection control, and regulatory standards
- Oversee stocking, organization, and readiness of supplies for student practice and competency validation
- Organize and maintain lab spaces to support structured instruction
Quality Improvement & Innovation
- Participate in evaluation and continuous improvement of simulation and skills lab activities
- Stay current with emerging simulation technologies, skills lab best practices, and nursing education standards
- Assist in faculty training on simulation and skills lab equipment and software
Other Job Duties as Assigned
Education:
Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree with a healthcare field per Ohio Board of Nursing requirements. Licenses/Certifications/Requirements:
Registered Nurse (RN) license active (unencumbered) preferred. Certification in healthcare simulation preferred.
Experience:
Requires a minimum 2 years experience in healthcare simulation, clinical skills lab, and/or healthcare technology. Strong technical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. May require occasional evening or weekend hours to support student learning
Experience with simulation platforms (e.g., Laerdal, CAE, Gaumard), prior teaching, lab instruction, or clinical education experience preferred.
Leadership:
Responsible for directing and monitoring the work of student and/or temporary workers.
Physical Requirements:
Moderate physical effort required involving long periods of standing, walking on rough surfaces, bending and/or stooping;
lifting and moving simulation and lab equipment (over 25 lbs. -- 50 lbs.).
Working Conditions:
Standard working environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise, crowded working conditions and/or minor heating/cooling or ventilation problems. Near continuous use (>70% of the time) of a video display terminal.
