Simulation tools are key to how Boston Dynamics develops incredible robots. Increasingly, simulation is also at the center of learning-based approaches, such as reinforcement learning. Boston Dynamic's Central Software team is looking for a Simulation Technical Manager to lead a newly formed team. This team is tasked with scaling company-wide simulation and creating the tools to help deliver the next generation of robot control, autonomy, and manipulation behaviors.. To succeed in this leadership role, you’ll need strong technical skills, experience building and mentoring teams, and the ability to work with stakeholders from diverse product backgrounds. If you are excited about being a multiplier to the success of all engineers at Boston Dynamics, we invite you to apply.
Day-to-Day activities will include:
-
Develop and deliver a company-wide simulation roadmap and vision.
-
Act as a technical, architectural, and product lead for the growing team.
-
Create simulation solutions for reinforcement learning, autonomous behavior validation, controls development and more.
-
Work with stakeholders ensuring solutions meet needs, balancing fidelity, speed, and other constraints.
-
Lead and mentor team members by example. Do what’s needed for your team to succeed.
-
Lead recurring planning and other agile meetings, setting and tracking team goals.
-
Ensure delivered solution scale across relevant workflows (e.g., local dev, cloud deployment, CI, hardware integration, etc).
To make an impact in this role you’ll bring:
-
Experience leading engaged engineering teams and breaking down complex problems into requirements/deliverables
-
A track record of delivering simulation technologies in robotics, autonomous vehicles, gaming, Visual FX, or equivalent
-
Demonstrated proficiency working (8+ years) with large multi-language (C++, Python, Go, TS, …) software projects
-
Experience with common physics (Bullet, Mujoco, ODE, Isaac Sim) and/or games engines (Unity, Unreal)
-
Experience scaling simulation solutions to the cloud and parallelizing evaluation in support of learning-based approaches
-
Knowledge of common interchange formats (USD, FBX) and DCC-based (Maya, Blender) workflows
-
Knowledge of rendering technologies spanning rasterized (GL, Metal, Vulkan) and ray-traced (RTX, OSpray, Eevee, Arnold) approaches
-
Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related field
We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.
