This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the installation, repair, and maintenance of city street signs and roadway markings.

  

  • · Trains, assigns, directs, supervises and evaluates personnel.
  • · Lead, schedule, coordinate, review, and participate in the design, fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic and road signs and pavement markings. 
  • · Request and identify areas needed for “locates” and obtain and maintain records of such from 811, the national call before you dig phone number.
  • Design and fabricate      traffic signs and specialty signs to design and size signs in compliance      with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards      utilizing specialized traffic sign design software programs utilizing a      commercial computer-driven cutter – plotter.
  • · Oversee the design and installation of thermoplastic and painted roadway markings in compliance with MUTCD standards.
  • · Supervises the installation and retrieval of traffic counters.
  • · Investigates and responds to citizen questions and complaints.
  • · Documents work performed.
  • · Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • · Manages assigned budgets.
  • · Maintains parts and supply inventory; makes purchases as needed.
  • · Performs related duties.

Requirements

  

· Knowledge of the materials, equipment, procedures, and practices employed in traffic signs and markings design, construction, and installation.

· Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

· Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

· Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

· Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices rules and regulations.

· Knowledge of IMSA work zone set up and safe in road working procedures.

· Skill in the operation of a variety of pavement marking equipment.

· Skill in the supervision of personnel.

· Skill in oral and written communication.

· Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.

· Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.

· Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
