Job Description

Position: Shipping Supervisor (PM Shift)
Reports to: Shipping Manager

As a Shipping Supervisor (PM Shift), you will play a critical role in overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of our shipping department. Reporting directly to the Shipping Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that all shipping activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with company standards. This position requires strong leadership skills, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment. Your focus will be on maintaining high levels of productivity, ensuring the accuracy of shipments, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

• Conduct Shift Startup Meetings: Lead daily shift startup meetings using bulletin boards to communicate updates, work objectives, and planning for the day.
• Staffing Management: Ensure staffing levels are adequate for the daily workload, adjusting as necessary to meet operational demands.
• Workload Management: Oversee the completion of daily tasks within the required time frame, prioritizing past-due items and managing trailer departure times efficiently.
• Loading and Auditing: Supervise the loading of 5-ton trucks and crates, ensuring load audits are conducted accurately. Verify and deliver signed audit sheets to dispatchers, confirming the correctness of outbound piece count and content.
• Supervision and Safety: Directly supervise staff, ensuring adherence to safe handling procedures and practices. Conduct daily toolbox talks, hazard assessments, weekly safety inspections, and ensure lift and handling safety protocols are followed.
• Training and Development: Provide ongoing training and development for employees, emphasizing the importance of meeting daily objectives and deadlines.
• Communication and Conflict Resolution: Maintain effective communication through a work cellphone, and address any conflicts that arise, resolving them swiftly and effectively.
• Dispatcher Support: Provide support to dispatchers during after-hours operations, ensuring smooth and efficient communication and workflow.
• Facility Maintenance: Ensure 5S compliance, maintaining a clean and organized facility at the end of each day.
• Weekend Supervision: Offer occasional supervisory and dispatch support on weekends as required.
• Customer Relations: Manage customer relations through phone and email, handling delivery appointments, changes, and cancellations with professionalism and efficiency.
• Load Planning: Plan shipments and build loads in alignment with customer expectations, ensuring that all required paperwork and load sheets are prepared and distributed to supervisors.
• Proof of Delivery (POD) Management: Understand and manage the process of proof of delivery (POD) using Google One Drive, ensuring all delivery records are properly documented.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a shipping, logistics, or warehouse supervisory role
• Strong leadership abilities with experience in supervising, training, and developing staff. 
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in handling, loading, and transporting goods.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, hazard assessments, and ensuring 5S compliance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage conflicts, and make decisions quickly to ensure smooth operations and timely shipments.
• High level of accuracy in verifying load audits, managing documentation, and ensuring that all shipments meet customer expectations.
• Computer literate; familiarity with logistics software, load planning tools, and experience with Proof of Delivery (POD) systems, such as Google One Drive. 
• Willingness to provide occasional support during weekends and after hours as needed
