Vanderlande is responsible for the Service & Maintenance of the Baggage Handling System at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We are currently seeking a Shift Leader to join our team. The Shift Leader serves as a primary responder to operational and maintenance issues while supervising a team of technicians. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance operations while supporting continuous system availability and customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities):

Exercise safe working practices at all times.

Inspect and diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and control systems.

Inspect and diagnose mechanical systems.

Perform specified preventive and corrective maintenance.

Perform monthly CM/PM activities, including inspection, adjustment, cleaning, and replacement of parts as needed.

Communicate with various parties regarding work performed and the operational status of specialty systems.

Interpret engineering drawings related to system layout, location, and operation.

Attend to faults, alarms, and warnings.

Monitor reporting through CMMS, including generating, tracking, and closing work orders.

Respond to messages from the Control Room, Operations Team, and management regarding preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

Supervise employees assigned to the team.

Train and mentor less experienced employees.

Ensure maintenance activities are executed according to contract requirements and quality standards.

Manage system issues on-site with the maintenance team, manager, and customer.

Establish and maintain work schedules to ensure fulfillment of contractual obligations and operational requirements.

Assist the Manager with daily operations and perform managerial responsibilities in their absence when required.

Ensure appropriate inventory levels of spare parts, tools, office supplies, and personal protective equipment.

Coordinate with vendors and suppliers as needed.

Initiate and support process improvements to enhance maintenance performance and operational efficiency.

Monitor housekeeping compliance throughout operational areas.

Act independently in performing technical tasks and troubleshooting activities.

Identify issues requiring additional attention and implement corrective actions.

Resolve problems that impact daily operations.

Required Education and Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of technical experience in an industrial, maintenance, or automated systems environment.

Experience working with mechanical, electrical, and controls systems (PLC and PC-based systems).

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Lead Technician, Shift Lead, or supervisory role.

Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years of Material Handling System (MHS) experience.

Minimum of 1 year of CMMS experience.

Experience in airport, baggage handling, logistics, automation, or industrial maintenance environments.

Knowledge of OSHA and safety practices.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time position; 24/7 operation. Must be available to work any shift based on operational needs. Overtime, weekend, and holiday work are common.

This position requires no travel.

This position is responsible for supervising employees.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, and lifting items weighing over 50 pounds. Employees regularly work around moving mechanical equipment, conveyor systems, airport vehicles, aircraft operations, and industrial machinery. The work environment may be loud and may require the use of hearing protection. Employees may also operate equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts and are required to communicate effectively via radio and other communication systems.
