Sheraton Miami Airport Hotel & Executive Meeting Center is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the daily operations of the Engineering Department. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this hands-on leadership role ensures the hotel's guest rooms, public spaces, meeting facilities, and building systems are maintained to the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency. The Engineering Manager oversees room preventive maintenance, regulatory compliance, while leading and developing the engineering team. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in HVAC, and knowledge of electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, life safety systems, and general building maintenance, along with excellent leadership and communication skills.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Lead and supervise the daily operations of the Engineering Department, including rooms property maintenance program, training, and coaching.
  • Respond to work tickets, maintenance requests, and guest concerns in a timely manner to ensure guest satisfaction and operational excellence.
  • Support hotel renovations, capital improvement projects, and equipment replacements and ensure work is completed safely, and on time.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, fire and life safety standards, building codes, Marriott brand standards, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage engineering shop inventory, ensuring accurate stock levels and timely replenishment of tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
  • Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, meeting spaces, mechanical rooms, and hotel grounds to ensure quality standards and asset protection.
  • Collaborate with hotel leadership and other departments to support daily operations, special projects, and exceptional guest service.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds throughout the property with frequent lifting and carrying of objects.
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.

Specific requirements of the role:

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical, and life safety systems.
  • Monitor building systems, troubleshoot operational issues, and coordinate timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Support emergency response efforts involving equipment failures, fire alarms, utility outages, and other facility-related incidents.
  • Maintain engineering records, work orders, inventory, and equipment documentation using the property's maintenance management system.
  • Ensure engineering shops, storage areas, and mechanical rooms remain clean, organized, and safe.
  • Assist other departments with operational support as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school coursework in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of engineering or facilities maintenance experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, preventive maintenance, and life safety systems.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, building codes, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, email, and workplace technology applications.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call emergency response.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant, Certified Pool Operator (CPO), OSHA, Electrical, Plumbing, or HVAC certifications are a plus.
