The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive to empower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being, and are looking for a Assistant Supervisor in our Shelter Program.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Supervisor assumes leadership responsibilities in the unit as assigned by the Supervisor and acts in place of the Supervisor in their absence. The Assistant Supervisor assists in the orientation, supervision, and evaluation of staff, assigning staff job-specific tasks, providing supervision of youth, implementing program schedule, and accommodating program activities. At the end of every shift, the Assistant coordinates quality improvement reviews and reports daily activities to the House Supervisor, if not on duty.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide trauma-responsive care that aligns with Agency trainings and is sensitive to and supportive of the children’s cultural and ethnic heritage and values.
- Accept delegated responsibilities requiring independent judgement and initiation.
- Teach, assist, and supervise staff to ensure they are implementing techniques which include activities about personal care, acculturations, life skills and general recreation.
- Assist Supervisor in daily activity planning, maintaining the physical environment, assisting with the youths’ clothing and personal needs, and administrative duties as required.
- Maintain a physical headcount of youth and counselor staff throughout shift.
- Complete Supervisor duties when Supervisor is not available, including team meetings.
Schedule: Wednesday-Saturday 12pm-10pm, Sunday-Tuesday OFF

QualificationsMINIMUM:
- AAS Degree or High School Diploma plus a minimum three years child care experience.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
- Valid New York State Driver's License with good driving record as determined by the Agency.
- Must complete and pass a pre-employment physical, PPD and drug screen.
PREFERRED:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong personal interests in a variety of life activities.
- Related skills, training, or certificates.
