General Description:
Older adults are among those most impacted by hunger, yet 1 in 6 adults aged 50+ in Cook County face food insecurity. Hunger forces older adults into a decision of whether to secure food or other critical needs, such as medicine.
The Food Depository works intentionally through partnerships to break down barriers of nutrition access for specific populations. In addition to the 400+ programs that are open to the public, the Food Depository supports an additional 230 programs geared towards the older adult population. During the summer months, the Food Depository administers the Summer Farmer’s Market Senior Nutrition Program (SFMNP), distributing coupon booklets to qualified older adults which can be spent on eligible items at farmers’ markets. In 2025, 11,200 booklets were distributed to older adults in Chicago.
The SFMNP Program Coordinator (Temporary) will work both in the Food Depository office providing administrative support to the SFMNP program and in the community providing distribution support to hosting sites. This position is essential to ensuring that older adults throughout the City of Chicago have access to quality produce.
The temporary position will be 30 – 40 hours a week and start July 6 through October 9, 2026.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Travel throughout the Cook County to support distributions at community sites.
- Ensure a dignified experience for neighbors and all paperwork is completed correctly.
- Provide in-person coaching for all sites as needed to ensure program compliance and follow-up with hosting sites as necessary.
- Perform ongoing quality control on issuance logs to ensure accuracy.
- Complete substantial data entry to support continued operation of the SFMNP program.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have personal transportation with a valid license and insurance.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with diverse populations in various Chicago neighborhoods.
- Strong organizational skills with a high level of proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, are required.
- Attention to detail when both writing and typing.
- Experience in providing outreach and direct services, preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish, preferred.
- High level of verbal and written communication skills, including ability to be clear, persuasive, and dynamic across individual and small group audience settings.
- Ability to work independently and proactively in a fluid environment, meet multiple concurrent deadlines, and organize time and priorities.
- Must be passionate about meeting the needs of older adults and underserved communities.
- The ability to work well with internal departments, varying types of personnel, agency members, partners, donors, clients and the general public.
EXPOSURE:
- Normal office environment; indoor and outdoor community distributions; and some exposure to warehouse environment.
- Hybrid work environment, with minimum three days per week in office.
- Able to sit at a desk, walk, and stand for long periods of time.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required depending on program schedules
- Interacts with Food Depository staff, program partners, volunteers, funders and the general public.

As a part-time and/or seasonal position, this position will not be eligible to participate in the employee benefits programs that the Food Depository may establish and make available to full-time, permanent employees; provided, however, this position will be entitled to benefits required under applicable law, including under the Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance.
