Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Systems Engineering Section Manager 2. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel Program. The selected candidate will be part of the Systems Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) BU in the AVSI Systems Engineering Directorate, specifically supporting the Advanced Concepts, Enablers, & IFC (AC/E/IFC) Department. This position may offer a competitive relocation package.

What You’ll Get To Do:

As a Systems Engineer Manager, you will serve as the functional leader for a group of members within the AC/E/IFC department. The functional team will be spread across multiple locations. This position is a dual-hat position requiring the candidate to perform functional management activities as well as the individual's current program responsibilities on program. As a Section Manager you will be expected to spend roughly 20% of your effort on Functional Homeroom responsibilities with 80% of your efforts focused on a technical assignment on an SDS project. This particular role is for functional responsibilities only, the candidate is expected to come with work scope already established on the program which will comprise 80% of their time. The work scope can be within any BU on the Sentinel Program.

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

• Responsible for assessing staffing needs, current as well as projected and working with the respective team leads to address those needs.

• Responsible for supporting recruitment activities including the creation of requisitions, conducting interviews, and approving offers.

• Work with program leaders in establishing personal, program, and functional goals as well as performing performance evaluations and merit adjustments for subordinates.

• Provide their subordinates with career development recommendations, mentoring, discipline, as necessary.

• Acquire the necessary computers, equipment and tools to enable their subordinates to perform their work.

• Generate training plans based on the program and their subordinates' needs.

• Provide their group with regular flow down of company and organizational status and appropriately represent and be a spokesperson for the organization to their group, assigned project, and the company.

• Set and promote high standards for engineering development

• Foster a working environment which reinforces and drives accountability to fundamental Northrop Grumman Values focused on integrity, quality, shared success, and innovation.

• Partner with engineering and program management peers to assure a balanced and efficient assignment of resources to support and achieve key mission priorities

• Coach, support, train, and motivate team members to ensure a high level of performance

• Collaborate with peers and direct management in resource planning and hiring activities

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 8 years of related experience; 6 years of related experience with a Master’s degree.

• Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at time of application with an investigation completed within the last 6 years

• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need

Experience with Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test processes

3+ years experience in ICBMs (MMIII or Sentinel)

5+ years of electrical and systems engineering experience

2+ years experience Electrical Design Integration (EDI) and/or Interface Control Model (ICM) development experience

2+ years experience leading teams in a functional, programmatic, or technical capacity

Experience contributing towards various phases of the Systems Engineering “V” lifecycle

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

Active DOD Top Secret clearance, SAP, and/or SCI access

Experience with Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test processes on the Sentinel Program

At least 1 year experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule

Experience working across program organizations to find solutions

Excellent decision making and communication (written and oral) skills

Experience with team leadership/management

Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

4+ years of experience in a multi-disciplined engineering environment

Earned Value Management experience

Experience with Agile, Confluence, and Jira

Risk Management experience

Mechanical Design Integration (MDI) experience

Experience with technical development programs (e.g. Pathways, FTL, SEA)

2+ years experience on large scale / complex aerospace/defense system development across multiple lifecycle phases: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell off, transition to production

2+ year(s) Direct development experience of interface products (Interface Requirements Specification (IRS), Interface Design Description (IDD), Interface Control Document (ICD)) and requirement specifications

1+ years experience in developing and executing Systems Engineering process governance documentation in a DoD Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase &/or Risk Management

3+ years of experience with managing/scheduling complex technical efforts

Experience with Systems Engineering program milestone events (e.g., PDR, CDR)

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
