Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Manager Project Management 2. This position will be located in Roy, Utah and will support the Sentinel program.

Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

The selected candidate will be responsible for oversight and management of the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serve as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. They will review status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepare status reports. They will assess project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. The selected candidate will develop mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

What You’ll Get To Do:

Manage a segment of a program or a function. You will be responsible for the direct supervision/management of the staff. You will also be responsible for providing objective-oriented direction to subordinates utilizing management guidelines & general policies. Your Program Manager responsibilities include: planning and program performance addressing cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality of a work package, subsystem, or related group of work packages on a large system development-type contract or full responsibility for all aspects of program performance on a large delivery order or mid-size technical services-type contract.

  • Receive objective oriented assignments, give subordinates direction based on policies and management guidance, and review their work to ensure it adequately meets the stated objectives.
  • Demonstrate expertise in Project Management and maintain a comprehensive, working knowledge of all relevant procedures and practices.
  • Make decisions within your job function that minimize corporate risk and advance the achievement of discipline objectives.
  • Oversee projects and tasks carried out by nonexempt and exempt team members, intervene only when needed to keep schedules on track or resolve technical/operational problems, and achieve results by delegating through lower-level supervisors or exempt employees.
  • Execute department procedures that affect individual employees in your area; interpret and implement policies and procedures that impact subordinate units; and recommend modifications to operating policies.
  • Deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Achieve results by directing lower -level supervisors and experienced exempt employees who operate with significant autonomy, and by leading a centralized functional activity.
  • Advise the unit on tasks, projects, and operations, and intervene in daily activities only when necessary to meet schedules or resolve complex problems.
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget, and make accurate decisions and recommendations to prevent serious delays, excess time, additional resources, and increased costs.
  • Maintain frequent contact with internal personnel and external customer representatives at all management levels regarding operations, scheduling, and specific project or contract phases; conduct briefings and actively participate in technical meetings to communicate detailed operational information.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience; master's degree and 6 years’ experience or an additional 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.

-Must be a U.S citizen and have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope,(<6yrs) with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP)

-At least 6 year of experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule.

-Demonstrated track record/ experience in project management/ execution and closeout.

-Firm understanding and application of Earned Value Management System (EVMS)

Preferred Qualifications:

-PMP Certificate

-Current Northrop Grumman CAM Certification

-Experienced people leadership that includes performance management, career development, staffing, and merit planning.

-Current Program Access Request (PAR)

-Functional and/or Assignment manager experience

-Supplier Management experience

-6 years of experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) principles and application or as a Cost Account Manager (CAM)

-2 years of ICBM experience

-Functional and/or Assignment manager experience

-Program Management Experience

-Supplier Management experience

-Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance

-Outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

-Demonstrated ability in prioritizing multiple tasks

-Demonstrated ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization and with outside organizations

-Experience managing people


Primary Level Salary Range: $115,000.00 - $172,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
