Overview:
The Senior Web Developer & Designer owns the end-to-end design, development, and ongoing optimization of company websites and digital experiences. This role blends creative direction with hands-on engineering across the stack, with deep expertise in WordPress architecture and theming. The ideal candidate pairs strong visual design sensibilities with production-grade coding, modern performance and accessibility standards, and a proactive use of AI to speed delivery and quality. You will partner closely with Marketing to ensure brand aesthetic, voice, and experience are cohesive and consistent across all channels.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead full-stack web builds with WordPress as the primary CMS, including custom themes, child themes, and plugins, Advanced Custom Fields or block-based editing, and integration with first- and third-party services.
- Design and implement page layouts, component libraries, and patterns in Figma or similar tools and code, maintaining a scalable design system that supports rapid iteration.
- Build performant, responsive, and accessible front-end experiences using modern HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks such as React where appropriate for headless or hybrid architectures.
- Develop secure, maintainable back-end features in PHP 8+, manage MySQL schemas and queries, configure REST and GraphQL endpoints, and integrate marketing and analytics platforms including Marketo, GA4, and tag managers.
- Optimize Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse scores through code splitting, image optimization, critical CSS, caching, CDNs, and server-side performance tuning.
- Implement SEO technical fundamentals including structured data, semantic HTML, sitemaps, redirects, canonicalization, and crawl budget hygiene.
- Ensure WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility compliance and cross-browser, cross-device quality through automated and manual testing.
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines, environments, where appropriate; manage code reviews, branching, and releases with Git.
- Harden security using least-privilege roles, secret management, WAF/CDN rules, and OWASP Top 10 mitigations; maintain reliable backup and rollback strategies.
- Use AI tools responsibly to accelerate ideation, wireframing, content generation, asset production, and QA; evaluate and integrate AI features such as on-site search, chat, and personalization when relevant.
- Partner with stakeholders to translate requirements into roadmaps, user stories, and acceptance criteria; communicate progress, trade-offs, and timelines clearly.
- Define analytics and experimentation frameworks, implement event tracking, and run A/B tests to improve conversion and user experience.
- Maintain site appearance and editorial velocity by enforcing content and display standards, templates, and governance in the CMS.
- Stay current with modern web techniques, security updates, and design trends; recommend pragmatic upgrades to tooling and stack.
- Maintains compliance with Inovalon's policies, procedures and mission statement.
- Adheres to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined within Inovalon's Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the undertaking of the position.
- Fulfills those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving operational and financial success of the Company.
Job Requirements
- 6+ years of progressive web development and design experience delivering production websites and landing pages at scale, including ownership of both front end and back end.
- Expert WordPress skills: custom themes and plugins, Gutenberg blocks, ACF or equivalent, multisite management, headless or decoupled builds, and complex integrations.
- Strong proficiency in PHP 8+, HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript, plus experience with React in front-end or headless contexts.
- Ability to write clean, semantic HTML and modern CSS (Flexbox, Grid) without relying solely on frameworks; familiarity with utility or component frameworks such as Tailwind or Bootstrap.
- Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining a design system and component library across design and code.
- Solid database fundamentals with MySQL or Postgres and practical performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on with performance optimization and Core Web Vitals improvements.
- Proven accessibility expertise with WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA implementation and testing.
- Version control and DevOps: Git workflows, environments, CI/CD, containerization with Docker, and deployment to common hosts; CDN and caching configuration.
- Marketing stack experience: Marketo forms and assets, GA4, tag management, and experimentation platforms like Optimizely.
- Fluency with AI tooling for code, content, and design workflows and understanding of responsible use
- Must maintain a publicly accessible profile (GitHub, personal website, or professional portfolio) demonstrating sites built and contributed to.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Sitecore XM/XP or Content Hub or Adobe Experience Manager Sites/DAM, including component-based templating, personalization, and content modeling.
- Experience with Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, or similar edge and CDN platforms.
- Familiarity with Node-based build tooling, package managers, and testing frameworks such as Jest, Playwright, Cypress, or PHPUnit.
- Experience integrating REST and GraphQL APIs, CRM and MAP platforms, and data layers.
- Understanding of privacy, consent management, HIPAA considerations for digital properties, and security best practices.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Marketing, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Sedentary work (i.e., sitting for long periods of time).
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force.
- Frequently or constantly to lift, carry push, pull or otherwise move objects and repetitive motions.
- Subject to inside environmental conditions.
- Travel for this position will include less than 5% locally usually for training purposes.
