Position Description

PIMCO is seeking to hire an experienced Defined Contribution (DC) Solutions Strategist to join the Defined Contribution Solutions team. 

This Defined Contribution Solutions team is responsible for the design, development, positioning, and commercialization of PIMCO's DC platform.  The team partners closely with Product Strategy, Portfolio Management, Marketing, Account Management, Corporate Retirement, and Consultant Relations teams to develop and implement retirement solutions, support client engagement efforts, and help drive growth across PIMCO's DC business.  The team also plays a key role in PIMCO's retirement thought leadership initiatives, including research publications and  PIMCO’s annual Defined Contribution Consulting Study. 

This role is ideal for an experienced and highly credible DC professional who is passionate about shaping retirement investment solutions and enjoys working at the intersection of product strategy, thought leadership, client engagement, and market innovation.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the evolution of PIMCO's DC platform, contribute to industry-leading research and insights, and engage directly with consultants, advisors, plan sponsors, and other retirement stakeholders.

The DC Solutions Strategist will help manage, evolve and commercialize PIMCO’s DC investment platform. This role is responsible for helping to lead product development and implementation initiatives, creating and positioning investment solutions, and providing investment expertise.  The successful candidate will partner closely with distribution teams to position DC solutions, communicate competitive advantages, support client retention and growth efforts, and ensure offerings remain aligned with client needs.

The individual will serve as a subject matter expert across PIMCO’s DC product suite, including off-the-shelf and personalized target date funds, retirement income solutions, active fixed income strategies for core menus, private markets solutions for DC plans, and other participant-focused solutions.    The role includes regular engagement with plan sponsors, consultants, advisors, and other retirement stakeholders while helping shape PIMCO’s DC strategy and thought leadership efforts. 

Location

The role can be based in either Newport Beach, CA or New York, NY and may require a moderate amount of travel.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage, enhance and further develop PIMCO’s suite of DC investment strategies, including off- the-shelf and personalized target date funds, retirement income solutions, active fixed income strategies, private markets solutions for DC and other participant-oriented solutions.

  • Identify demand for new solutions and enhancements to existing offerings; develop positioning, investment narratives and go-to-market strategies that support adoption and growth. 

  • Work with plan sponsors, consultants, advisors, and other retirement stakeholders to assess DC investment needs and recommend solutions. Deliver DC expertise and communicate PIMCO’s perspectives on DC plan design, participant outcomes, and retirement investing.

  • Partner with Product Strategy, Portfolio Management, Marketing, Account Management, Corporate Retirement, and Consultant Relations teams to ensure PIMCO’s DC  product suite is clearly positioned, competitively differentiated and aligned with plan sponsor, consultant and participant needs.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for PIMCO's DC platform, helping position solutions, communicate competitive advantages, and support client retention and growth efforts.

  • Collaborate with other PIMCO investment professionals, including Client Relationship Managers and Portfolios Managers. 

  • Develop client-facing materials,  including presentations, white papers, educational content, and other thought leadership publications.

  • Collaborate with Marketing on the development of PIMCO’s annual DC consulting study and present study findings to clients, consultants and other key DC stakeholders.

  • Represent PIMCO at key industry conferences, client events, and forums, serving as an ambassador for the firm's thought leadership and DC solutions while enhancing PIMCO's presence and reputation in the marketplace.

  • Participate in ad-hoc research projects related to the retirement markets, industry trends, and emerging opportunities.

  • Serve as an internal resource for client-facing and marketing teams on DC, retirement income, and retirement solutions -related topics.

  • Provide timely and forward-looking insights both internally and externally on investor demand, competitors and DC market trends.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required. CFA designation, MBA, or other advanced degree is desirable.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the institutional DC space within asset management, institutional sales, relationship management, client management, consultant relations, business development, or a related field.

  • Experience with developing, managing, positioning and/or commercializing investment solutions and products for the U.S. DC market, including target date funds, retirement income strategies, active fixed income solutions and other core menu offerings. 

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the competitive landscape across the DC product ecosystem, including target date funds, retirement income solutions, capital preservation strategies, fixed income offerings, and broader core menu investments. 

  • Possess a strong knowledge of the institutional and advisor-led DC landscape including plan sponsor, consultant, advisor, and intermediary dynamics.

  • Demonstrate a commercial mindset and strong consultative sales skills with a history of successfully engaging with plan sponsors, advisors, consultants, and other retirement stakeholders. 

  • Deep knowledge of DC trends, plan design and mechanics (accumulation and decumulation), investment vehicles, capital markets, and economics.

  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to develop credibility with institutional investors, senior decision-makers, and other key stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex investment concepts clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Proven ability to prioritize opportunities, manage multiple client relationships, and execute against ambitious business objectives.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment and work effectively across global and cross-functional teams.

  • Active FINRA Series 7, 63, and 3 licenses required.

PIMCO follows a total compensation approach when rewarding employees which includes a base salary and a discretionary bonus. Base salary is the fixed component of compensation that is determined by core job responsibilities, relevant experience, internal level, and market factors. The discretionary bonus is used to award performance and therefore is determined by company, business, team, and individual performance.


Salary Range: $ 265,000.00 - $ 305,000.00
