Who you are:

We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Senior Vehicle Systems Engineer to lead complex vehicle reverse-engineering projects and develop safe, reliable vehicle data solutions that support Geotab’s products. If you love technology and are keen to join an industry leader, we would love to hear from you!

What you'll do:

As a Senior Vehicle Systems Engineer, your key responsibilities will include leading complex vehicle investigations, reverse engineering, and root-cause analysis; defining safe and reliable vehicle integration requirements; and guiding testing, validation, and data-quality improvements. You will work closely with Vehicle Integrations, hardware, software, and data engineering teams, as well as Product, DNA, RevGen, and other internal stakeholders. To be successful, you will be a curious, clear communicator who can explain complex technical concepts to varied audiences, mentor colleagues, and make well-judged decisions. You will also bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, technical leadership, and the ability to plan and deliver complex work across teams.

How you'll make an impact:
  • Lead reverse engineering and root-cause investigations across vehicle electrical, hardware, and communication systems to improve data quality and reliability.
  • Define safe, reliable requirements for interfacing with vehicle communication systems, including containment strategies that help prevent data loss or adverse vehicle interactions.
  • Develop test plans and validation approaches for vehicle investigations, working with the Vehicle Integrations Team and cross-functional engineering partners.
  • Identify and lead resolution of high-priority vehicle data quality issues that affect Geotab products, and support the design and modification of test solutions.
  • Deliver clear engineering requirements and documentation, and contribute engineering changes through Git commits and merge requests, including review and approval of peers’ changes.
  • Design and implement monitors and dashboards to assess Feature Flag behaviour and inform release strategies; use data to evaluate device health and feature effectiveness.
  • Mentor and upskill team members, improve reverse-engineering processes and best practices, and advise stakeholders on technical feasibility, effort estimates, and vehicle systems.
What you'll bring to the role:
  • 5–8 years of related experience with vehicle systems, sensors, actuators, controls, diagnostics, and electrical or communications architecture, design, and operation.
  • A bachelor’s degree or post-secondary degree/diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Computer, Systems Design, Automotive Engineering, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle architecture, embedded systems, and CAN bus communication protocols, with proficiency in OBD-II (J1979), J1939, and vehicle communication standards such as KWP and UDS.
  • Experience diagnosing vehicle issues using CAN analysis software and conventional tools, including connector probing, harness building, and circuit testing.
  • Understanding of automotive ECU software architectures such as AUTOSAR, particularly application-layer functional clusters; familiarity with Automotive Ethernet and DoIP is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences; previous technical leadership or mentoring experience.
  • Ability to learn or write SQL queries and Python scripts to analyze Google BigQuery data; willingness to travel internationally up to 25% and a valid passport and driver’s licence for independent vehicle operation.
If you got this far, we hope you're feeling excited about this role! Even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
