Our Future Health is the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to transform the future of healthcare. Today, millions of people across the UK live with conditions such as cancer, dementia, diabetes, and heart disease. By bringing together 5 million volunteers from across the UK, Our Future Health is creating one of the most detailed pictures of human health ever assembled.

We're looking for a Senior User Researcher to join us on a 12 month fixed-term contract (maternity cover, ideally starting mid Sept). In this role, you'll help us better understand the people who engage with Our Future Health and use those insights to shape how we recruit, support and retain participants throughout their journey.

This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher who combines curiosity, rigour and empathy, and who thrives on turning user insight into meaningful product and service improvements at scale.

What you'll do

As a Senior User Researcher, you'll play a key role in ensuring our products, services and participant experiences are grounded in a deep understanding of user needs, motivations and behaviours.

You'll:

  • Lead and deliver user research across the product lifecycle, using a range of qualitative and quantitative methods including interviews, surveys, usability testing, diary studies and ethnographic research.
  • Generate actionable insights that influence product strategy, design decisions and participant engagement initiatives.
  • Design and run usability studies that help us refine experiences before launch, reducing friction and improving outcomes for participants.
  • Evaluate the impact of products and services post-launch, partnering with product analysts to understand what's working, what isn't, and why.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, Analysts and other user-centred design specialists to embed evidence-based decision making across teams.
  • Facilitate workshops and insight-sharing sessions that bring colleagues closer to participant needs and experiences.
  • Build and maintain a repository of user insights, ensuring research findings remain accessible and reusable.
  • Support and coach colleagues in planning and conducting effective research activities.
  • Champion inclusive and accessible research practices, ensuring diverse participant voices are represented throughout our work.

Requirements

We're looking for someone who is passionate about understanding people and translating insight into action.

You'll bring:

  • Experience conducting user research for digital products and services, with the confidence to plan, lead and deliver studies independently.
  • Experience working in growth-focused environments, particularly where participant or customer acquisition is a key objective.
  • Strong expertise across a range of research methods, including interviews, usability testing (moderated and unmoderated), survey design and behavioural analysis.
  • A proven ability to synthesise complex findings into clear, compelling recommendations that drive decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to tailor insights to different audiences and influence outcomes.
  • Experience using research platforms and tools for recruitment, testing, analysis and knowledge management.
  • Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary teams across both discovery and delivery.
  • Confidence advocating for user-centred approaches and helping teams understand and act on user needs.

Let's prevent disease together.
Closing date for applications: 9am, 1st July

What We Do

Our Future Health is the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to prevent, detect and treat diseases. Our mission is to create an incredibly detailed picture of the UK population’s health, by recruiting up to five million adult volunteers from across the UK. Taken together, the data will present health researchers with a powerful tool to identify new ways of tackling diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and dementia. It's an unprecedented challenge that involves answering questions that have never been asked before – ethical, practical, and technological. And by getting these answers right, we believe Our Future Health will allow future generations to live in good health for longer. We are currently expanding our team and looking for specialists across various fields – people who are motivated by the opportunity of creating something new that will make a difference to society.
