Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Unix Technical Lead with strong expertise in Solaris, HP-UX, Unix clustering technologies, and scripting to manage and support mission-critical enterprise platforms. The candidate will be responsible for leading Unix infrastructure operations, managing high availability clusters, automating operational tasks, and providing L3 technical support for production environments.
The role requires deep technical expertise in legacy and modern Unix systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and leadership capability to guide junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership• Lead Unix platform operations across Solaris and HP-UX environments• Provide L3 support and technical guidance to L1/L2 teams• Act as escalation point for critical incidents (P1/P2)• Review and approve technical changes, implementations, and upgrades• Mentor team members and build technical capability
Solaris & HP-UX System Administration• Install, configure, and maintain:
o Oracle Solaris (10 / 11)
o HP-UX (11i v2 / v3)• Perform OS patching, upgrades, and system hardening• Manage users, filesystems, storage, and system services• Perform performance tuning and troubleshooting• Handle OS-level issue diagnosis and resolution
Cluster Management
Cluster Management• Manage and support Unix cluster environments such as:
o Veritas Cluster Server (VCS)
o HP Serviceguard
o Solaris Cluster
o PCS (Pacemaker/Corosync) (if applicable)• Configure and manage cluster resources:
o Application services
o Virtual IPs
o Filesystems
o Database services• Troubleshoot cluster failures, failover issues, and node problems• Perform cluster health checks and maintenance
Scripting & Automation• Develop and maintain automation scripts using:
o Shell scripting (Bash, Korn shell)
o Ansible • Automate operational tasks such as:
o Health checks
o Monitoring scripts
o Deployment scripts
o Maintenance tasks• Improve operational efficiency through automationIncident, Problem & Change Management• Lead troubleshooting of production incidents• Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA)• Implement preventive and corrective measures• Support change management activities• Ensure SLA compliance and platform stabilityStorage & System Management• Manage storage using:
o LVM
o Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM)• Manage filesystems such as:
o VxFS
o UFS
o ZFS• Support SAN and multipath configurationsDisaster Recovery & High Availability• Support DR environments and failover testing• Perform DR drills and validation• Ensure cluster and DR readiness• Eliminate Single Points of Failure (SPOF)Documentation & Compliance• Maintain technical documentation and SOPs• Create operational runbooks• Ensure compliance with security and audit standardsMandatory Skills:
Unix Platforms• Strong hands-on experience with Solaris administration• Strong hands-on experience with HP-UX administration• Deep understanding of Unix system internals
Cluster Technologies• Strong experience with one or more clustering technologies:
o Veritas Cluster Server (VCS)
o HP Serviceguard
o Solaris Cluster
o PCS Cluster (preferred)
Scripting• Strong shell scripting skills (Bash / Korn shell)• Experience with automation scripting• Python scripting experience preferred
Troubleshooting• Strong production troubleshooting skills• Experience handling critical incidents
