Purpose of the Job
To underwrite and develop a profitable International Upstream book.

Job Responsibilities
Use authority granted in Underwriting Authority Statement to execute on the Upstream Energy business plan and assist in producing future business plans.
Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within key distribution channels across the London Market and global broker networks, strengthening The Hartford’s presence in the Upstream Energy segment.
Contribute to underwriting activities related to the renewal portfolio of Upstream Energy business, ensuring disciplined risk selection and portfolio profitability.
Participate in the development and implementation of the Upstream Energy marketing strategy, supporting growth objectives in the London Market and internationally.
Utilise all available underwriting tools, including technical rating models, exposure assessments, engineering reports, and market benchmarking to support risk-based decision-making.
Assist in further development of systems for the monitoring and reporting of aggregate exposures and help further develop and maintain technical pricing models.
Support the Head of Energy in growing Upstream Energy portfolio, contributing to underwriting governance and business planning.
Assist with travel and marketing initiatives aimed at promoting The Hartford brand to brokers, clients, and other industry partners within the Upstream Energy space
Ensure compliance with The Hartford’s internal best practices as well as Lloyd’s, regulatory, and local market requirements relevant to Energy underwriting.
Keep abreast of development of claims within the Upstream Energy book and to liaise with the claims team as necessary to ensure appropriate settlement of these claims.
Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of underwriting performance and portfolio analytics as required.
Help to mentor and educate other team members as required.
Participate as required in various committees, including underwriting, delegated underwriting, operations and risk.
Qualifications and Capabilities
ACII qualified or strong progression thereto, &/or degree level education
Knowledge of general insurance and its underlying principles
Willingness to continue to develop knowledge of Insurance and related issues through form and informal learning
Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external customers
Ability to prioritise and organise workload
Attention to detail
Team player with ability to work on a stand-alone basis
Flexible
Good communication skills
Experience of identifying and implementing better processes
Experience
Demonstrable and strong underwriting or broking experience
Ability to demonstrate technical capability, experience and understanding of the Upstream Energy business
Strong market facing/broker development skills, including writing and leading new business
Interpersonal skills and ability to operate independently in a small team
This role will be based in London, UK and you are required to have the necessary right to work details prior to application.
