SailPoint is seeking a Senior UI engineer to join our engineering organization to help drive the design and implementation of our SaaS product. We are looking for an engineer that is passionate about customer experience and has a proven track record of delivering intuitive web UIs for enterprise applications. You will be expected to collaborate closely with UX, project management, and backend teams to solve customer problems and drive innovation to deliver the best possible experience to our customers. You will work closely with backend teams to help improve API usability on a microservice architecture and help guide the architecture of our platform. You will be a member of a highly agile team tasked with developing new functionality, maintaining and supporting the existing, and help guide the future technology vision of the product.
Responsibilities:

  • Implement intuitive and scalable web application UIs using Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML and other web technologies


  • Guide the UI architecture and toolset, including build systems, component library, coding, style guides, and best practices


  • Collaborate with the UX team on user interaction design to help shape the UX of the product based on a balance of customer and technical needs and help guide the future vision of the product's UI


  • Optimize user interaction workflows across the application to ensure consistency across feature sets and products


  • Consume supporting REST APIs and collaborate closely with microservice teams to define API contracts and help guide the architecture of backend systems


  • Work closely with product management to provide technical input on features, help define solutions for the product, and help develop delivery roadmaps


  • Break down engineering work and create estimates based on product requirements


  • Evangelize modern design patterns and advocate for the adoption of modern technologies within the UI team and throughout the engineering organization


  • Mentor peers and facilitate knowledge transfer to ensure they have all the tools to succeed in their work


  • Interact with stakeholders, product management, support engineers, and customer success manager to develop a deep understanding of the fundamental problems our customers are experiencing and need solved


  • Take ownership of code quality and help guide best practices for unit, integration, E2E, manual testing, and monitoring


  • Instrument, maintain, and analyze tracking metrics collected at various points within the application to identify pain points and guide improvements


  • Respond to customer incidents and troubleshoot root cause of application issues


Requirements:

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent, or relevant work experience


  • 5+ years of professional software development experience building scalable UI web applications


  • Strong working knowledge of web technology fundamentals including JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS, HTML, JSON, REST, AJAX, and HTTP


  • Experience with one or more JavaScript framework and tooling such as Angular, React, Webpack, and NodeJS


  • Experience with component-driven development and tools such as StorybBook for documenting and managing UI components


  • Experience delivering highly complex product features requiring collaboration across multiple teams


  • Strong knowledge of common design patterns such as Redux and NgRx


  • Experience leading complex projects requiring coordination across many teams


  • Experience collaborating with UX and product management to define and scope projects


  • Experience working in an agile/scrum development process


  • Experience onboarding, mentoring, and leading other engineers


  • Experience with one or more Automated UI testing frameworks (Cypress, Jest, Karma, Protractor, Selenium, Jasmine)


  • Good knowledge of backend architecture and systems


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Preferred:

  • Strong experience with Angular, TypeScript, NgRx, NodeJS, and NestJS


  • Experience developing code that adheres to accessibility standards such WCAG 2 and Section 508


  • Familiarity with supporting language localization, i18n


  • Familiarity with API development and microservice architecture


  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services


  • Familiarity with commercial security applications/infrastructure products

What success looks like in the role
Within the first 30 days you will:

  • Complete onboarding with HR


  • Get development environment set up


  • Be able to complete tasks with limited scope such as bugs or small feature enhancements, including posting pull requests for the code changes with the required automated tests, and getting the code merged into the main branch after addressing review comments.


  • Take on 1-2 stories/bugs per week


  • Complete team-specific courses


  • New hire maintains availability during core business hours and effectively communicates issues ahead of time.


60 days:

  • Take on a higher volume of tasks with higher complexity


  • Collaborate with team by giving and receiving feedback


  • Comfortable raising question to the team


  • Maintain a velocity of 6 story points per sprint - (for reference, 8 or 9 story points per sprint for a fully onboarded person)


  • Be able to complete assigned tasks with minimal to no assistance


  • Participating in technical design and grooming sessions with the team


  • Have a strong understanding of the system architecture


By 90 days:

  • Participate in the on-call rotation


  • Have an average velocity of 8 points per sprint


  • Participate in technical design and grooming sessions with the team


  • Give a presentation or provide input on an area in the system or team process that has room for improvement


By 6 months:

  • Take on 8-9 story points per sprint


  • Mentor if the opportunity becomes available and/or assist more junior developers


  • Know how the system works and be able to propose/drive technical design of new product features


  • Able to complete tasks independently the majority of the time


  • Deliver commitments 90% of the time


  • Collaborate with engineers across teams to identify dependencies and align on technical approaches


By 1 year:

  • Gain the trust to be part of the interview panel for new roles


  • Contribute to technical design documents in response to product and engineering initiatives.
