About this role
Supports customer needs by leading the development of new applications. Provides technical knowledge on the use, handling, and management of Dow products. Uses understanding of the customer to define projects that deliver technical solutions to customers and markets.
In this role, you will require understanding of key business drivers for your discipline and function. You will need to be able to expand conceptual and working knowledge related to your discipline or functional area. You are expected to provide informal guidance to new team members and be able to explain complex information to others.
It is your responsibility to use technical experience, established practices, and personal judgement to analyze and resolve straightforward problems. Your performance impacts the quality of your own work and your team’s work and requires that you work within established guidelines and policies.
Responsibilities – Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role
- Identification of target application areas based on business input, market understanding and performance characterization.
- Focusing on solvents, surfactants, lubricants, etc. for the markets of industrial & institutional cleaning and lubricants.
- Working together with fellow R&D/TS&D and commercial teams, and channel partners to develop products and solutions that meet customer end user requirements.
- Serve as peer coach and provides constructive advice on projects within the team. Use skills and competencies to increase productivity of himself/herself and others.
- Promote new and existing specialty products and solutions to strategic customers.
- Develop understanding of market/industry dynamics and develop a technical strategy to capitalize on customer needs.
- Building strategic customer partnership and drive the innovation growth in the focus markets.
- Conducting customer projects and drive projects toward success.
- Attends appropriate industry conferences and contributes data and input for papers and presentations.
- Development of deep knowledge around Specialty Chemicals performance centered on characterization of fundamental properties and the link between these properties and end user applications.
- Communicates and appropriately documents work in the form of internal reports/ROC's/presentations, technology manuals, knowledge management resources, external reports, and patents when appropriate.
- Understand and follow appropriate EH&S standards, policies and procedures applicable to their job. Lead by example in the area of safety behaviors by promoting safe work habits.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of significant professional experience in an area that deals with applications development on the markets of home care, industrial & institutional cleaning, or lubricants.
- Good understanding on specialty chemicals oxygenated solvents, surfactants, polyalkylene glycols, acrylic polymers, etc.
- Those without the necessary experience on the related industries and with good understanding of specialty chemicals will also be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent project management skill.
- Goal-oriented, self-motivated, proactive, fast learning and passion for new technologies.
- Have interests in new application exploration.
- Multicultural background or experience is desired.
- Able to work in a team as well as independently.
- This position will be based in Dow Japan Development Center in Yokohama, and will require around 20-40% of time on travel in Japan, potentially other countries in Asia Pacific.
Education:
- Bachelor degree or above in Chemistry, Polymer Sciences, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, and related majors.
- Master or PhD degree preferred.
