The Hartford currently has an in-house REMOTE opportunity for a Senior Trial Counsel to litigate cases primarily in Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties.
This position is an ideal fit for an experienced Attorney with significant, demonstrated trial and litigation experience in Labor Law/Construction site accidents, Premises Liability, Products Liability as well as Commercial and Personal Automobile accidents. The Senior Trial Counsel will have the ability to handle cases independently from inception through trial and will work diligently to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation.
As a Senior Trial Counsel for The Hartford, you will join a collaborative team of experienced litigators handling complex litigation and high exposure cases. In this position the attorney will report directly to the Staff Legal Managing Attorney.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision because of level of experience and expertise.
Demonstrated expertise in various practice areas across personal and commercial lines of business including Motor Vehicle, Premises, Labor Law, and Products Liability.
Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues.
Prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions.
Leverage trial experience and litigation skills to drive favorable negotiated settlements.
Comply with Litigation Management Guidelines.
Responsible for the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.
Establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with the Court, the Bar, within the office and with external business partners.
Demonstrate strategic thinking, operational excellence, and positive leadership.
Utilize Generative Artificial Intelligence tools to generate content in support of decision-making and recommendations.
Provide legal opinions to Managing Attorney, Assistant Managing Attorney, clients and claims customers.
Mentor and coach staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in New York State required.
Member in good standing of New York State Bar.
Knowledge of New York Supreme Courts.
Insurance Defense: minimum 15+ years of significant, relevant trial experience required.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple duties and time are a must.
Strong communication skills – written and verbal.
Strong computer and technological skills.
Self-motivated to achieve high standards and continuously improve.
Possess agile, growth mindset with willingness to learn and develop.
Demonstrate Expense discipline.
Demonstrated integrity while building trust with our clients, claim professional teammates, attorney colleagues, and support team members.
Able to travel to and handle cases venue in Westchester and Rockland Counties is a plus.
Admitted to practice in Federal Courts is a plus.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
