As an in-house Senior Trial Counsel for The Hartford, you will join a collaborative, team-oriented, contemporary work environment that includes a strong focus on work-life balance. Our Senior Trial Counsel will primarily litigate cases in South Florida but may handle cases throughout the State, as needed.
The selected individual will be required to work closely with our claim centers and insureds to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation. Our ideal candidate will be part of a unique team responsible for providing top quality representation of The Hartford and its insureds for litigated matters involving Auto and General Liability (product & premises) files. These cases will be handled from inception thru trial resolution. The Senior Trial Counsel will handle the following key responsibilities:

Analyze complex legal and factual issues while conducting extensive and well-reasoned legal research

Independently develop and aggressively present defense strategies on behalf of clients for auto and general liability cases from inception through trial

Prepare pleadings, written discovery, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies

Provide effective and timely information, legal advice, and other services

Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion

Participate in claims file reviews

Independently conduct trials, depositions, arbitration, and mediations

Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain a high level of professional expertise

Interact with internal clients and Major Case Unit on a regular basis
QUALIFICATIONS:

Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school and a license to practice in the state of Florida is required

Minimum of 15 years of legal practice with demonstrable verdict experience within insurance defense

First chair jury trial experience is required

Legal research and motion practice expertise

Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook); Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!

Self-directed aptitude with excellent organizational and prioritization skills

This is a remote work position, and the selected candidate will work from his/her home within the State of Florida.
This position requires 10-15% of travel within the State of Florida for court and file-related appearances.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$133,920 - $200,880
