Job DescriptionAECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Senior Transit Planning Manager - Urban Transportation Infrastructure for immediate employment in our Chicago office. The focus is executing and managing projects and expanding our overall transit planning practice in the areas of service planning, multimodal corridor studies, data analysis, and transit feasibility. The ideal candidate will have a proven career in the transit and transportation industry, showcasing a strong history of client service, high-quality project delivery, and successful business development. The position is a hybrid position based in Chicago, reporting to the Transit Market Sector lead in the Midwest. The candidate will in an organization with local transportation staff, and regional and national transit and transportation team to execute projects and position AECOM for new work with transit clients in the region (primarily CTA, Metra, NICTD and Pace).
This is a growth opportunity for the right person with industry experience and an entrepreneurial spirit to strengthen AECOM’s transit planning practice today and build it for tomorrow. The expected role for the candidate would be to:
- Manage, plan, and direct large and complex projects, and/or programs related to transit and transportation planning.
- Lead and/or provide subject matter expertise.
- Work with the Transit Business Line leadership team and area local and regional planning staff on development and execution of growth strategies and program management.
- Assist in leading the Proposal development process including team formulation, Statement of Qualifications, Technical Proposals and Presentations.
- Establish relationships with both external and internal clients and customers, including other potential consultant team members and leadership experience with industry associations (e.g., APTA).
- Drive AECOM’s commitment to quality and client focus. Identify upcoming transit pursuits in the Chicago market, and support pursuits in other markets nationally.
- Drive improved deliverable content and quality, innovative client solutions, and client focus.
- Position AECOM for pursuits that best fit our skill set and growth plans. Mentor staff and support staff growth and development.
- Attend conferences and workshops to strengthen existing client relationships and establish new relationships; obtain an understanding of emerging technologies and market drivers.

QualificationsMinimum Qualification:
- BA/BS + 10 Years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership.
- A valid Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline.
- 10 + years of related experience in transit planning including skills in project management, client service management, design, and/or business development activities for transit clients and/or projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Experience as a Transit Planning subject matter expert.
- Experience with local and federal funding and project development requirements.
- Experience in client pre-positioning activities, team (internal and external) and proposal development, and execution of selection interviews.
- Experience collaborating with operations, project, and marketing staff of all levels.
- Experienced collaborating across disciplines and business lines for integrated delivery and growth.
- Working relationships with local transit clients in Chicago and the Midwest.
- Experience in proposal preparation and business development.
- Experience in implementing design quality assurance and quality control activities.
- Experience increasing market share in the transit sector.
- Experience in developing and nurturing relationships with key clients.
- License and/or registration of professional engineer or planner.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software programs.
