We are seeking a Senior Traction Power Engineer to join our team in New York, NY.
Your role- Support our clients and provide technical support to resolve design, construction, testing and operation issues related to traction power and high voltage electrical systems.
- Develop concept of operations, system requirements, plans and specifications suitable to tender a complete electrification system.
- Perform Traction Power Simulations to determine facility locations, system configuration and equipment location and sizing.
- Develop detailed designs, application programs, testing and commissioning plans suitable for execution by contractors.
- Evaluate changes to designs generated by contractors based on field conditions.
- Support equipment installation, testing and commissioning efforts. Support troubleshooting, provide solutions and evaluate and approve results.
- Supervise, guide, mentor and develop traction power engineering staff.
- Present ideas, concepts and details to owners, contractors, suppliers and others.
- Coordinate with a wide diversity of stakeholders to develop integrated and accepted solutions.
- Coordinate and build partnerships both internally with Atkins and externally with partners to achieve goals.
- Work with other to promote Atkins and develop opportunities for new work.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License is required. PE licensed in the State of New York is preferred or ability to obtain after hiring.
- Fifteen (15) years minimum of experience in the rail electrification industry with at least one project based in the US.
- Preferred experience with multi-vendor traction power equipment.
- Demonstrable experience in specification development, engineering procedure development, standards development, financial management, estimating, etc.
- Experience with both third rail and overhead catenary systems.
- Experience with Traction Power systems for Streetcars, LRT, Commuter and/or High Speed Rail.
- Demonstrable experience in training, mentoring and developing staff and educating clients in all aspects of system engineering.
- Detailed knowledge and experience with the design and implementation of DC systems (600/750/1000/1500V), AC systems (12.5/25KV), grounding design and EMI/EMC systems including but not limited to modeling and simulations, preliminary design, detailed design, RAMS, programming, field testing, and V&V.
- Proficient on use of ETAP or SKM Engineering Software.
- Knowledge of railway operations, system safety, RAMS and associated requirements.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written, including technical writing) is required.

Additional informationExpected compensation range is between $150,000 - $170,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
