Job Description

Capabilities:

  • Ability to be part of a team of experts, ensuring technical and safety standards are maintained throughout all design activities to guarantee successful project delivery and long‑term reliability.

Tasks:

  • During all the stages of a project, contribute to design development, design risk and mitigation and value engineering, regarding traction power system and traction power substations.
  • Development of electrical studies and collaborate in the TPS simulations for the sizing of the system and the location and main characteristics of the TPS equipment.
  • Space proofing design for the TPS installations, including cable routing design.
  • Produce technical reports, technical specifications, liaise with BIM/CAD modellers for production of drawings, BoQ, and any other documentation required on each stage of the project.
  • Ensure that good design practices are followed. Knowledgeable of standards and norms, especially CENELEC and ANSI, IEEE.
  • Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work so that successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved.
  • Definition and development of interfaces with relevant parties, as well as attending to coordination and design team meetings as required.
  • Integration of the design process inside the System Engineering and System Assurance (SESA) process of the project.
  • Attend design team meetings and defend/justify the design in front of the client or independent reviewers.

    Qualifications

    Qualification & Experience:

    • Electrical engineer with proven experience in railway traction power discipline (7 years minimum)
    • The candidate must be able to communicate and fully develop projects in English.

    • Desirable experience in:
      • Railway electrification (DC and AC), specifically design, construction, test & commissioning, and maintenance of electrical substations
      • Development of technical specifications of electrical substation equipment
      • Electrical calculations of railway traction electrical substations
      • Design, calculation, and construction of grounding & bonding networks for electric railways in DC and AC
      • Design, calculation, parameterization, and test & commissioning of electrical protections in DC and AC electric railways
      • Design, installation, test & commissioning, and maintenance of distributed control systems at the substation level, remote control level, and the Centralized Control Center level.
    • Other skills (desirable but not mandatory ):
      • CAD and BIM proficiency
      • Other Languages, especially French or Italian.

    Skills Required

    • Electrical engineering degree or qualification
    • At least 7 years of experience in railway traction power engineering
    • Ability to communicate and fully develop projects in English
    • Experience with ETAP software
    • Experience with railway electrification, including DC and AC substations
    • Experience in electrical substation equipment technical specifications
    • Experience performing electrical calculations for railway traction substations
    • Experience designing, calculating, and constructing grounding and bonding networks for electric railways
    • Experience designing, parameterizing, testing, and commissioning electrical protection systems for DC and AC railways
    • Experience with distributed control systems at substation, remote control, and centralized control center levels
    • CAD and BIM proficiency
    • French or Italian language skills
