Senior Test Engineer

Summary:

Designs, develops, and implements cost-effective methods of testing and troubleshooting systems and equipment for all phases of product development and manufacturing. Prepares test and diagnostic programs, designs test fixtures and equipment, and completes specifications and procedures for new products. Plans the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices.

Position Requirements Operations Engineering- Test Development Engineer

Summary/Purpose:

VIAVI, Seoul Gasan-Dong, Wireless Business Unit, has a need for a Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer with the experience and drive to make a difference.  This position will directly support new product introduction and provide secondary support for contract manufacturing sites.  Prior experience in the field of RF/microwave test equipment is strongly preferred.

The purpose of this position is to ensure high quality and reliable test methods and approaches are designed into automated test systems in manufacturing and service for wireless communication test equipment produced by the Wireless Business unit.  This position will partner with R&D during new product introduction and continue to support products through their lifecycle.

Primary Role and Responsibilities: 

• This role will closely partner and be co-located with R&D at the VIAVI Seoul office and potentially at other R&D sites.
• Provide DFT directions to R&D at the concept stage of new product development.
• Devise the overall test and configuration strategy for new products
• Design and develop the various automated production systems required to implement the strategy.
• Detailed project planning to ensure that all production systems are developed, debugged, and validated in time for production pilot run.
• Detailed design of specific tests required to ensure products are free of hardware defects.
• Design and implementation of validation plans to ensure repeatable and reliable functionality of production systems
• Installation and validation of production systems at the final production facility (usually a contract manufacturer).
• Process optimization between Pilot and Volume Production

Metrics:

• Documented and defined product test strategy staring at product concept phase.
• Optimized test Cycle Time, while maintain effective and agreed upon test coverage.
• Optimal test coverage and capability at specified budget constraints.

Personal skills/attributes and experience:

• 4-year electrical engineering degree, MSEE or equivalent preferred
• 5 years of experience developing automated functional tests.
• NI LabVIEW, TestStand, LabWindows CVI programming experience
• C#, Python and other programming languages beneficial.
• Knowledge of communications technology and test technology - such as: 5GNR, LTE, RF and Digital test.
• Project planning / self-directed management skills.
• SQL database programming experience.
• Knowledge of statistical process control.
• Must be a self-starter, strong team player and demonstrate leadership skills.
• Ability to travel up to 15% of the time to Asia contract manufacturing site.
• Speaks Korean and must also be proficient in English, both written and spoken.
