The Opportunity



The purpose of a Senior Test Analyst at Gentrack is to carry out strategic testing of our products to ensure the delivery of highest quality software to end-users. This includes creating detailed test cases and scenarios, both manually and through automated tools, to identify and address defects in the software development lifecycle. The Senior Test Analyst collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including developers and business analysts, to understand requirements and guarantee comprehensive test coverage.

The role focuses on designing complex test strategies, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to process improvements. Senior Test Analysts are expected to work with a great degree of autonomy and apply the depth of expertise when making critical decisions. There may be times when the role holder will be required to retest defect fixes and regularly update internal/external stakeholders on project progress.

The Specifics 

  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans and strategies based on project requirements and specifications.
  • Create detailed test cases and test scenarios that cover various aspects of the software, including functional, non-functional, and performance requirements.

  • Execute test cases manually or through automated testing tools.
  • Perform regression testing to ensure that new code changes do not negatively impact existing functionality.

  • Ensure that test deliverables are produced and delivered on time, created according to the quality standards defined both internally and by the client, and are written to be re-usable and auditable.

  • Support complex test activities including identification of test conditions, creation and execution of test cases for project work.
  • Participate in planning, stand-ups, estimation, retrospectives and backlog grooming as appropriate.
  • Provide strategic direction for the testing on the project team, undertake test planning, estimate the effort and duration of testing, and determine resource and environment requirements. 
  • Identify areas of process improvement in the testing lifecycle and contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes.
  • Actively participate in discussions related to test strategies, tool selection, and process improvements.
  • Provide guidance, constructive feedback and mentorship to junior test analysist in the team.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and share knowledge with the testing team.
  • Stay proficient in testing tools and technologies relevant to the software development environment.
  • Document complex processes or procedures that may be of benefit to other testers.
  • Manage and prioritise customer requests in an effective and sustained manner that builds and strengthens customer relationships.
  • Engage with customers, if required, to discuss internal testing activities specific to their project.

What we're looking for (you don’t need to be a guru at all, we’re looking forward to coaching and collaborating with you):

  • Strong experience and knowledge of software testing lifecycle with Agile, Waterfall and mixed methodologies.
  • Strong experience planning the application and reporting of internal and external testing phases.
  • Time spent working in cross functional team environments, particularly self-managing environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of testing management tools i.e. TestRail and JIRA.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant technologies and concepts including SQL Server, Client/Server applications, CRM, Postman, Utilities industry.
  • Good working knowledge of SQL statements.
  • Experience in supervising other testers.
  • Strong initiative to find ways to improve solutions, systems, and processes.
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an IT related degree or similar.
  • ISTQB Foundation certification.
  • 5+ years commercial manual software testing experience.
