VIAVI Solutions is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Sr. Telecom Solutions Engineer for its Service Provider Network assurance monitoring solutions portfolio.
This role is responsible for guiding the R&D organization by articulating requirements from our customer use cases for execution with Engineering and bringing to market world class CORE and RAN Assurance and Automation solutions suite. Providing technical support for the development and implementation of complex products/applications/solutions. Using in-depth product knowledge to provide technical expertise to R&D staff and the customer through presentations and product demonstrations. Assists the BU in assessing potential application of company products to meet customer needs and may prepare detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer products/applications/solutions. May create detailed design and implementation specifications for complex products/applications/solutions. May build a mini-application based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of the application, often requiring rapid prototyping and/or product demo for client. May provide consultation to prospective users and/or product capability assessment and validation.
Additional Job Description Essentials
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical or telecommunications engineering or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of related industry experience in the field of telecom operations and engineering, with in-depth knowledge and real-world experience deploying, operating (e.g., in a NOC) and troubleshooting CORE or Radio Access Networks in Telecom Operators.
- Strong telecoms background with extensive domain knowledge to a detailed level of protocols and call models.
- MUST, LTE, 5G, 5G SA.
- Wireless domain, GSM, UMTS, 3GPP.
- Wireline domain SS7, AIN, INAP, Softswitches, VoIP, SIP, H.248, IMS.
- Must be proficient at reading and working with detailed protocol specifications from 3GPP and other industry bodies.
- Deep knowledge of 3GPP specifications and their application to real world scenarios is required.
- Understanding of the telecom’s domain and the key use cases used by NOC, troubleshooting and customer care teams.
- Build and grow strong customer relationships from engineering to executive levels with the existing customer base and new target customers through direct engagements with the sales team, industry events, consortiums and standards bodies.
- You will be comfortable driving detailed packet level analysis using tools like Wireshark.
- Experience in the use defect tracking or CR management tool i.e. JIRA
- Strong software lifecycle experience from requirements all the way through to testing and support.
- Experience in writing EPICs and user stories forming a high-level requirements specification.
- A natural communicator and influencer, using such strengths in often difficult and complex situations; especially competent at clearly setting expectations and delivering on them.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including effective presentation skills.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Enthusiastic and passionate about the work.
- Strong troubleshooting skills - Must have the ability to quickly drive the correct actions within the development team to identify, solve and fix customer issues given the networking context e.g. analyze sample packet capture and feed back to development team on corrective actions.
- Must be an excellent team worker but with the ability to work independently.
- Must have excellent communication skills.
- Must be able to work effectively across functions (e.g. Marketing, Support, etc.) and geographies.

Desirable :
- Industry recognized expert in the domains of CORE, RAN, O-RAN, Operations and Deployment in the wireless telecom market.
- Should be a proficient user of 4G and 5G optimization and geolocation solutions; additional experience with 2G and 3G preferred
- Significant experience identifying real world use cases in CORE and RAN operations, and defining appropriate solutions that address those use cases required
- Experience with and knowledge of performance, fault, and configuration management (PM, FM, CM) data sources and their application specifically to 4G/5G assurance.
- Background in developing distributed systems.
- Experience of solving complex scalability and performance issues.
- Appreciation of the need for x-ability.
- Experience in being the technical focus point for a development team.
- Experience of customer escalations.
- Strong experience in architecture and design for a distributed system.
- Experience in the use of Kubernetes and its operation withing a secure operating environment
