About us

At Dyson, we are constantly driven by a passion for innovation and excellence, relentlessly pushing the boundaries of engineering to redefine what others consider impossible. We transform real-world problems into impactful products through a blend of pioneering new technologies and inventive applications of well-established solutions. Our mission is to deliver market-leading performance and meaningful value to our customers by integrating these technologies into iconic products. The Technology Development team plays a critical role in this journey, leading multidisciplinary collaboration and technical excellence to position Dyson at the forefront of the industry.

About the role

As a Senior Product Performance Engineer, you will be a pivotal technical leader within a focused team, responsible for driving product performance strategies from conception to full-scale production. You will partner with design engineering and cross-functional colleagues, leveraging your expertise to assess requirements, identify technical priorities, and refine solutions that consistently exceed ambitious performance goals. Your role will require you to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels – picking up projects at their earliest stages, collaborating globally (including with UK teams), bringing in best-in-class technologies, and ensuring successful transition to manufacturing.

  • Independently evaluate alternative viewpoints and determine technical direction for specialist areas and broad projects. Apply sophisticated system thinking to optimize and balance multifaceted product performance, always prioritizing the end user.

  • Set the technical agenda by planning and prioritizing key tasks, thereby ensuring thorough requirements definition and consistent development of product performance throughout the lifecycle.

  • Lead data-driven analysis, ensure rigor in test methodologies, and deliver decisive recommendations and verification reports that facilitate insightful decision-making.

  • Clearly communicate progress and results to all stakeholders, adapting communication style as needed for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to others, supporting team development and process improvement while upholding Dyson’s values of innovation and continuous improvement.

About you
  • Master in Mechanical Engineering (other relevant discipline will be considered)

  • Broad knowledge of applied physics, design engineering, particle science, fluid dynamics and numerical analysis.

  • Have experience on using analytical tools for problem solving and product performance optimization.

  • Competent in the use and application of CAD tools in general.

  • Experience in system engineering processes and able to demonstrate system breakdown analysis.

  • Able to write unambiguous product requirements and test method.

  • Ability to work in a high demand, fast-paced environment, able to manage stakeholder expectation and has critical thinking all times.

  • A clear, logical thinker with attention to detail and an appreciation for engineering fundamentals and critical analysis.

  • Demonstrate strong written & verbal communication skills. Able to clearly, concisely & confidently present & articulate ideas to larger cross-category groups from a variety of areas, often with Management attendees.

Dyson employs over 14,000 people and is present in more than 80 countries. And while we are growing fast we want Dyson to remain a start-up in spirit with the freedom of experimentation and learning, constantly reinventing our products as well as reinventing how we work, how we sell and how we support our owners. At the same time we are working through the James Dyson Foundation, James Dyson Award and Dyson Institute to inspire future engineers and pioneering a new approach to engineering education.
