Responsibilities:
- Develop user information products and collateral to communicate to our customers what the product is, how to use it, and its capabilities. This includes documenting new features and enhancements and making incremental updates and corrections to existing information.
- Develop plans to ensure you meet project deadlines, and coordinate publishing and distribution to correspond with product updates and releases.
- Respond to feedback from both internal and external customers, assess and address their needs and requirements, and make relevant improvements.
- Gain a solid understanding of the product through hands-on experience as well as by participating in development meetings, interacting with developers, and reviewing design and customer requirements.
- Work closely with different teams such as product management, engineering, support, customer success, and professional services.
- Review UX designs and provide input on text strings and messages visible in the product UI.
- Assess user requirements and identify conceptual weaknesses in the product; suggest ways to make things easier to understand and use.
- As part of a larger Knowledge Services team that is responsible for all products, help us define our information development strategies and work on strategic initiatives.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of technical writing experience in a software development environment
- Degree in the arts/humanities, and/or college diploma in Technical/Professional Writing or equivalent
- Proven technical writing skills, including the development of user, installation, admin, and command line documentation
- Exceptional written English skills, including the ability to break down complex concepts into easy-to-understand, meaningful content that meets the audience needs
- Ability to learn complex software applications quickly and to work under tight deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams (for example, development, customers, sales, engineers), who may be remote and across multiple time zones
- Experience with MadCap Flare preferred
- Experience working with image editing software such as SnagIt
- Working knowledge of source control systems (Helix Core, Git, etc.)
- Basic understanding of HTML and CSS
- Experience working with code samples
- Experience with an agile development process preferred
- Experience with bug tracking tools, such as Jira, preferred
- Experience with instructional design and learning management systems an asset
- Knowledge of Linux and Windows administration tasks an asset
- Proactive, problem-solving attitude and a strong desire to make a difference
