Position Summary

The Senior Technical Writer supports projects that produce requirements documentation, solution design documentation, and operating model documentation for technical programs. This role is responsible for translating complex technical decisions — including architecture and system diagrams — into clear, well-organized, and accurate documentation.

The Senior Technical Writer works as part of a team to draft, format, and assemble documentation deliverables, maintain version control of documentation, and ensure consistency and quality across artifacts. This role goes beyond editing or transcription: the Senior Technical Writer must be able to read and understand architecture and technical diagrams well enough to update existing diagrams and produce new ones using standard diagramming conventions.

Success in this role requires strong technical acumen, excellent written communication skills, and the ability to work closely with technical stakeholders to accurately capture and document decisions. This position requires demonstrated technical writing ability and the capacity to understand and document technical concepts, diagrams, and architecture. Candidates will be asked to submit a writing sample and a diagram-based work sample as part of the application process.

Key Functions

  • Collaborate with Solution Architects, DevSecOps Engineers, Cybersecurity teams, and Database Administrators to understand complex technical solutions for Salesforce and AWS development, test, and other environments in the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Produce and maintain requirements documentation supporting solution design and technical decision-making.
  • Draft and assemble solution design documentation, including narrative content, diagrams, and supporting artifacts.
  • Produce and maintain operating model documentation.
  • Create, update, and revise architecture and technical diagrams, applying standard shapes, connectors, and diagramming conventions consistently.
  • Translate technical decisions and discussions into clear, well-organized documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Format, assemble, and finalize documentation deliverables for internal and client review.
  • Maintain version control of documentation in Confluence or an equivalent content management platform.
  • Ensure documentation deliverables meet Section 508 accessibility compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with technical stakeholders to accurately capture architecture, requirements, and design decisions.
  • Support consistency and quality across documentation deliverables, including formatting standards and terminology.
  • Participate in technical discovery and design sessions to gather source material for documentation.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with federal clients, delivery teams, and technical stakeholders while supporting mission-critical systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • High School Diploma and 7 years of relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Required: submission of a writing sample demonstrating the ability to translate technical material into clear, well-organized documentation.
  • Required: submission of a diagram-based work sample (e.g., interpreting or reproducing a sample architecture/technical diagram using standard shapes and connectors) demonstrating the ability to read and produce technical diagrams.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and reproduce architecture and technical diagrams using standard shapes, connectors, and diagramming conventions (e.g., in Visio, Lucidchart, or similar tools).
  • Sufficient technical acumen to understand software, infrastructure, or systems concepts well enough to document them accurately — this is not a purely administrative or transcription-focused role.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with strong attention to detail, grammar, and formatting consistency.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple documentation deliverables concurrently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technical stakeholders to accurately capture and document decisions.
  • Ability to shift focus between competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
