The Policy & Ratings team is seeking a full-time Senior Technical Writer. The person selected for this position will have a broad impact on state and national energy regulations. Through our work for major North American utilities, city and state governments, and other national leaders in energy policy, we are effective in influencing markets and achieving significant and measurable energy savings and greenhouse gas reductions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Write and edit reports that present proposed revisions to energy policies in a clear, compelling, and factually accurate manner for an audience of state or federal agencies and public stakeholders. Subject matter experts from Energy Solutions and/or our subcontractors are responsible for developing proposals and supporting documentation such as energy, economic, and cost-effectiveness analyses. The technical writer will collaborate with subject matter experts to develop reports. Examples of Codes and Standards Enhancement (CASE) Reports for proposed revisions to the California Energy Code are available at title24stakeholders.com.
- Draft comments on proceedings for policy changes for matters related to energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Comments will be submitted to government agencies and will be available to members of the public through the proceedings’ public dockets.
- Provide technical edits to public comments and CASE Reports related to energy use and greenhouse gas emissions written by other members of the policy and ratings team.
- Update and maintain style and usage guidelines that ensure consistent formatting, voice, and tone throughout client-funded and Energy Solutions’ deliverables.
- Identify creative ways to visually convey information and collaborate with subject matter experts and Energy Solutions’ Creative Services team to develop meaningful graphics.
- Develop and manage quality control processes to ensure the policy and ratings team’s written deliverables meet quality expectations.
- Contribute to business development initiatives by developing descriptions of Energy Solutions’ product offerings and qualifications and writing request for proposal responses.
- Support the Policy & Ratings team in consistently improving our writing capabilities by supporting staff learning and development (e.g., developing and delivering trainings, mentoring staff, offering personalized feedback).
- Identify creative ways to visually convey information and collaborate with Creative Services team to develop meaningful graphics.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, business, philosophy, technical writing, or another writing-focused discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years relevant experience, preferably with energy, environment, regulatory, or climate topics.
- Prior experience writing to support policy changes.
- Copy editing experience and familiarity with academic publishing standards for grammar, usage, citations, and punctuation.
- Detail-oriented with ability to grasp and succinctly articulate technical information.
- Collaborative style, able to adapt to changing schedules and situations.
- Strong work ethic, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to function effectively both independently and within a team environment working with remote colleagues.
- Proficient in use of digital collaboration tools, specifically Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Experience with Slack, and SharePoint is a plus.
- A proven professional or personal commitment to the betterment of the environment and the reduction of GHGs is a strong plus.
Compensation to commensurate with experience with the pay band of $89,000 to $122,000/Annually
Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a generous retirement package. Energy Solutions provides an excellent benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, other pre-tax contribution plans and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
