The Role
Chewy is hiring a Software Development Manager for our Storefront org in Minneapolis, MN or Boston, MA. This position will have exposure across the entire storefront org, influencing the vision and implementation of architecture, design, and features that directly impact the company's top line. As part of a dynamic team, this role offers a tremendous opportunity for professional growth in the leading online pet retailer in the US. The role will have immense visibility in Chewy's technology & business organizations.
What You'll Do:
  • Technical Leadership Expertise:
    • Provide strategic direction and technical leadership in developing, deploying, and maintaining storefront experience and services.
    • Collaborate closely with engineers to translate business requirements into scalable and efficient data-driven solutions.
    • Lead the evaluation and adoption of innovative technologies, tools, and methodologies to drive innovation and enhance predictive capabilities.
  • Code Quality and Review:
    • Establish and enforce coding standards, code review processes, and quality assurance practices!
    • Conduct regular code reviews, providing constructive feedback to Team Members to improve code quality, readability, and maintainability!
    • Implement automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous integration and delivery of high-quality software.
  • AWS Expertise and Cloud Architecture:
    • Use your expertise in AWS services to architect and implement scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
    • Design and deploy cloud-native applications maximising services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, and ECS/EKS.
    • Implement best security, compliance, and performance optimization practices in AWS environments.
  • Project Planning and Execution:
    • Collaborate with product managers and partners to run backlog, prioritize features, and establish realistic timelines.
    • Drive project execution, identifying key achievements and dependencies, resourcing, supervising progress, addressing impediments, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  • Team Development and Mentorship:
    • Lead a team of software engineers responsible for building Chewy's Post Transact platform initiatives. Mentor and coach Team Members, guiding technical skills development, career growth, and professional excellence.
    • Identify team training opportunities and skill gaps, implementing initiatives to enhance technical capabilities and expertise.
    • Cultivate a supportive and inclusive team culture that values diversity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Recruit and hire new engineers and mentor the growth of the existing team.
  • multi-functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate closely with multi-functional teams, including product management, design, quality assurance, and operations, to align priorities and deliver integrated solutions and facilitate communication and collaboration between teams, resolving conflicts and fostering a culture of clarity and accountability.

What You'll Need:
    • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, or a similar math or engineering field, or equivalent work experience
    • 5-10 years of experience in Software Development as a software development engineer.
    • 1-2 years of experience as a Software Development Manager.
    • Excellent ability to manage teams and lead from the front.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and empower teams and Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, focusing on getting results and delivering value to partners.
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, React, Typescript with hands-on experience in architecture, design, and implementation.
    • Extensive experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and proficiency in cloud architecture design and implementation. Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB.
    • Solid understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) and tools (e.g., JIRA, Git).
    • Extensive experience with Java, AWS, React, GraphQL or similar frameworks and/or libraries
    • Solid fundamental background in multiple testing fields (e.g., APIs, Functional UI testing, Performance testing, data systems testing, distributed systems, etc.).
