Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.
Waymo’s Technical Program Managers and Program Managers are accountable for Waymo’s roadmap execution by providing thoughtful cross-functional planning, clarity, and proactive risk management. In the face of complex technical and operational challenges with no established playbooks to follow, we act with thoughtful urgency, driving conversations, discussions, and outcomes. Our team partners closely with every function of Waymo to structure, own and drive work towards real-world deployments of the Waymo Driver across platforms and geographies.
You will:
- Lead cross-functional technical programs to integrate Waymo's autonomous service with third-party platforms.
- Own the technical delivery of external integrations end-to-end, from creating the cross-functional execution plan to defining the process for ensuring continued quality post-launch.
- Serve as the primary execution counterpart for external teams, translating an ambiguous set of work into clearly defined deliverables, owners, and schedule.
- Drive technical trade-off decisions across scope, schedule, scalability, and user experience.
- Proactively identify, prioritize, and mitigate risks and dependencies across multiple concurrent partner programs, and represent them to executive leadership.
- Build the scalable frameworks, processes, and tooling that let Waymo onboard and operate many partner integrations without a linear increase in effort.
You have:
- 7+ years of experience leading highly complex, cross-functional technical programs with a holistic understanding of business-wide functions (e.g. Product, Engineering, Business Development, Operations).
- A track record of shipping consumer-facing software products and features, with demonstrated ownership of the execution from kickoff through launch and post-launch operations.
- Experience running programs where critical dependencies sit with teams outside your direct influence, and a track record of getting them to deliver.
- Strong technical depth: you can read a system design, hold your own in architecture and API discussions with engineers, and tease out the scope, schedule, and risk implications of each option to drive the decision.
- Deep care for the end user, with the ability to keep rider experience and quality at the center of technically complex, multi-party programs.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to align diverse internal teams and external partners and influence executive stakeholders.
We prefer:
- Experience with external-facing integrations, platform APIs, or B2B2C products where another company's engineering team was a critical dependency.
- Experience in rideshare, mobility, delivery, two-sided marketplaces, or other products where software coordinates physical operations in real time.
- Experience launching products or integrations in multiple geographies, including navigating localization, payments, and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with defining quality gates, testing plans, SLAs, and launch readiness processes for systems shared with external teams.
Travel requirements:
- Occasional travel for partner working sessions or market launches
