Zoox is an autonomous mobility company that’s created a purpose-built robotaxi to give the world a better way to ride.
The Role
Drive Camera program leadership, manage schedules, mitigate risks, track budget, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and ensure successful hardware integration.
Summary Generated by Built In
Zoox’s Advanced Hardware Engineering team is responsible for delivering the autonomous hardware, sensing suites, and electronic control units that power our future fleet of self-driving vehicles. Crucial to this architecture is our Camera Sensor Suite—the primary visual system that provides the high-resolution RGB and infrared data necessary for our AI stack to perceive the world and navigate safely. We are looking for a seasoned Technical Program Manager to own the Camera program end-to-end, including the integrated schedules for our 5MP and LWIR (thermal) camera systems.

In this role, you will work cross-functionally with sensor engineering, computer vision software, systems safety, supply chain, and vehicle integration teams to achieve strategic objectives and tactical milestones. You will develop complex project schedules with numerous hardware/software dependencies, map sensor-specific milestones to major vehicle builds, mitigate technical risks, and manage program budgets. You will be expected to identify solutions to complex integration problems and navigate ambiguity, all while holding teams accountable and clearly communicating progress to leadership.

As with any startup, we move fast at Zoox, and you will be asked to wear many hats. We want to hear from you if you are passionate about solving challenging problems across diverse engineering teams and scaling your impact by developing structured ways of working. If you are an expert at unifying cross-functional stakeholders, driving consensus through technical diplomacy, and pushing high-precision hardware from concept to SOP, then this role was made for you!

In this role, you will:

  • Drive the Camera program forward with thought and energetic leadership, supporting architecture alignment, hardware development, validation, and integration for our 5MP and LWIR (thermal) systems.
  • Translate corporate strategy and top-down milestones into detailed camera product roadmaps, timelines, and technical deliverables in partnership with department leaders.
  • Manage internal development and tests by using task management systems (e.g., JIRA) to clearly structure, communicate, and track sensor-specific workstreams.
  • Define and track resource requirements and program spend against budget, collaborating closely with cross-functional leaders and Finance teams.
  • Oversee technical supplier activities, including design review, design for manufacturing, build planning, execution, and the implementation of robust end-of-line tests and calibration procedures prior to delivery.
  • Partner with procurement and supplier quality teams to ensure excellent external partnerships and the on-time delivery of high-precision camera components.
  • Collaborate with in-house manufacturing experts to ensure all processes are in place for final camera assembly and vehicle integration, ensuring parts meet exact specifications.
  • Coordinate root-cause analysis and overall response for camera issues occurring in the fleet, maintaining strict "JIRA ticket hygiene" and cross-functional momentum for resolutions.
  • Ensure goal delivery by working across the Program Management Office, SW/FW (Computer Vision) teams, safety teams, and vehicle manufacturing.
  • Establish standard reports to provide concise and effective communications to key stakeholders on program status, issues/risks, and accomplishments.
  • Facilitate technical trade-off discussions and align team perspectives using options matrices to help the program team make informed sensor-related decisions.
  • Maintain a disciplined business and meeting cadence, ensuring structured meeting agendas are set for critical topics and every team member understands their accountability.

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS degree in an engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in leading engineering teams and/or program management
  • Proven track record of managing end-to-end hardware development, including HW/SW integration, rapid design cycles, and scaling products from concept through supplier-base manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with project management/reporting tools (i.e., SmartSheet, JIRA, Confluence)
  • Ability to communicate clearly, lead by influence, and build strong relationships with team members and leadership
  • Self-motivated and proactive problem-solver

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience in highly regulated industries (automotive, aerospace, etc.)
  • Experience with camera or sensor hardware development, integration, and calibration
