Senior Technical Architect, Zuora

Location: Remote within US (not limited to the states that the job is tagged to)

Role Overview

Genesys is seeking an experienced Senior Solution Architect, Zuora Billing to lead solution architecture, design governance, and technical direction across our billing platform and broader Lead-to-Cash ecosystem. This role will be responsible for designing scalable, reliable, and supportable Zuora Billing solutions that support subscription, usage-based, and hybrid monetization models.

This role requires deep hands-on expertise in Zuora Billing, with extensive experience in Zuora Workflows, mediation, usage processing, rating, bill runs, integrations, and operational supportability. The ideal candidate brings strong architectural judgment, curiosity, ownership, and the ability to drive clarity across complex cross-system processes spanning Salesforce, Zuora Billing, Zuora Revenue, Workday, ServiceNow, AWS, and related integration layers.

Success in this role requires more than platform knowledge. The Senior Solution Architect must understand the business context, challenge incomplete requirements, evaluate downstream impacts, and design solutions that protect billing accuracy, revenue integrity, operational stability, and long-term scalability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture for Zuora Billing, including subscription lifecycle, amendments, renewals, cancellations, usage billing, rating, invoicing, credit memos, bill runs, and billing operations.
  • Design and govern Zuora solutions that support subscription, consumption-based, and hybrid billing models, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and alignment to Lead-to-Cash architecture.
  • Architect and optimize Zuora Workflows, including orchestration, error handling, retry logic, notifications, monitoring, exception management, and operational runbooks.
  • Lead architecture for mediation and usage processing, including usage ingestion, transformation, validation, aggregation, rating readiness, failure handling, and reconciliation.
  • Partner with Salesforce, Revenue Systems, Finance, Product Operations, Billing Operations, and Engineering teams to ensure end-to-end alignment across Quote-to-Cash processes.
  • Evaluate downstream impacts of billing changes across Zuora Revenue, Workday Finance, reporting, tax, customer portal, entitlements, and revenue accounting processes.
  • Design and document integration patterns between Salesforce, Zuora Billing, Zuora Revenue, Workday, ServiceNow, AWS, middleware platforms, and customer-facing systems.
  • Establish design standards and best practices for Zuora configuration, workflows, billing rules, charge models, usage processing, invoice behavior, and data integrity.
  • Drive solution design reviews with Product Owners, Technical Leads, developers, BSAs, QA, Billing Ops, and business stakeholders.
  • Identify architectural risks, technical debt, operational gaps, and process weaknesses; recommend pragmatic solutions and sequencing options.
  • Support complex incident and defect analysis by identifying root cause, assessing platform and process impact, and recommending durable corrective actions.
  • Partner with QA and business stakeholders to define end-to-end testing strategy, regression scope, usage/rating scenarios, billing validation, and release readiness criteria.
  • Guide teams on monitoring and observability requirements for workflows, mediation jobs, integrations, bill runs, and customer-impacting billing processes.
  • Ensure solutions comply with change management, access controls, audit expectations, SOX requirements, and financial data integrity standards.
  • Create and maintain architecture artifacts, including solution designs, workflow diagrams, integration maps, data flows, decision records, failure-mode analysis, and operational support models.
  • Mentor Product Owners, BSAs, Tech Leads, developers, and support teams on Zuora Billing capabilities, workflow patterns, mediation design, and billing architecture principles.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in solution architecture, enterprise applications, billing systems, or Quote-to-Cash platform delivery.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Zuora Billing in complex enterprise or SaaS environments.
  • Extensive experience designing and supporting Zuora Workflows, including orchestration, error handling, retry design, monitoring, notifications, and operational controls.
  • Strong experience with mediation, usage ingestion, usage transformation, usage validation, aggregation, rating, and exception handling.
  • Strong understanding of subscription billing concepts, including rate plans, charges, amendments, renewals, cancellations, bill runs, invoice generation, credit memos, payments, and adjustments.
  • Experience designing billing solutions for usage-based, consumption-based, subscription, and hybrid monetization models.
  • Experience integrating Zuora Billing with platforms such as Salesforce, Zuora Revenue, Workday, ServiceNow, AWS, middleware, tax engines, customer portals, or entitlement systems.
  • Strong understanding of Quote-to-Cash / Lead-to-Cash processes and downstream impacts across Finance, Billing Operations, Revenue Accounting, Sales Operations, and Customer Support.
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into scalable architecture and communicate tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience leading design reviews, architecture governance, impact analysis, and technical decision-making across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose complex billing, workflow, integration, and data issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear architecture documentation, decision records, and executive-ready summaries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Zuora Revenue, revenue recognition processes, RevPro integrations, or ASC 606-related downstream impacts.
  • Experience with Salesforce CPQ, Salesforce Revenue Cloud Advanced, Workday Finance, ServiceNow, AWS, or enterprise middleware platforms.
  • Experience designing billing observability frameworks, including dashboards, alerting, workflow monitoring, exception queues, and operational metrics.
  • Experience with API design, event-driven architecture, batch processing, asynchronous processing, and integration governance.
  • Experience operating in SOX-controlled or regulated environments with strong change control, access control, audit, and data integrity requirements.
  • Experience with GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, release automation, environment management, or DevOps practices for enterprise applications.
  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation programs, phased cutovers, dual-system operations, or legacy-to-future-state migrations.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled operational support, including incident summarization, anomaly detection, RCA assistance, or knowledge management use cases.
  • Zuora certifications or formal Zuora implementation partner experience are a plus.
