About the job
This position is needed to ensure that complex financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported in compliance with the latest accounting standards and all applicable regulations; and to design, where applicable, and maintain an effective system of internal controls for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance purposes. As our business continues to grow and diversify, the need for specialized knowledge and increased compliance with new regulations becomes increasingly critical. This position will provide technical accounting guidance and lead various technical accounting projects. This role will work cross-functionally with broader Finance organization and other internal groups such as Legal, Social and Environmental Impact, Investor Relations, Business Development, Sales and Human Resources, as well as interface with outside technical advisors and auditors.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Research accounting guidance and prepare technical accounting memos, white papers, related calculations and journal entries to support the company's reporting position
- Perform financial analysis to support decision-making related to technical accounting matters
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP and other applicable financial reporting standards
- Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on various accounting topics
- Become an expert and an end-to-end owner in your areas of responsibility, be a holistic forward thinker, strengthen big picture vision, drive improvements, lead change,
- Assist as needed in preparation of quarterly and annual reports (10-Q, 10-K), other SEC filings, such as earning release materials
- Assist with ESG reporting implementation efforts
- Regularly critically assess adequacy of the internal controls applicable to your areas of responsibility, lead enhancements based on holistic understanding.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with external auditors
- Interact effectively across various functional teams within Twilio (finance, tax, social and environmental impact, legal, business units) to provide support on various projects
- Perform effectively in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment

Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field; CPA or equivalent certification required
- 10 years of accounting with a focus in technical accounting within a public accounting firm and a large corporate environment
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP covering variety of technical topics
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to interpret and apply accounting standards to complex real-world scenarios
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-financial stakeholders
- Extensive proficiency designing internal controls based on thorough grasp of the fact pattern and applicable risks. Exceptional ability determining compliant documentation and interfacing with internal and external auditors
- High attention to detail, a questioning mind and a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
Desired:
- 7+ year of Big 4 public accounting experience
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Ability to influence and build effective working relationships with all levels of the organization.
Location
This role will be remote, and based in Alberta, Ontario or British Columbia, Canada.
Travel

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Based in British Columbia. : $135,920.00 - $169,900.00
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
