About The Position
The Senior Tax Specialist is responsible for income tax accounting and income tax compliance activities, as well as possible duties related to regulatory accounting, audits, tax technology, tax research and special projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Know and understand the operations of assigned legal entities
- Understand the transactions represented on the trial balance of assigned legal entities.
- Be able to determine and communicate the appropriate tax treatment of transactions reflected in the trial balance.
- Prepare the quarterly income tax provision for each assigned legal entity, in adherence with ASC 740
- Maintain the completeness and accuracy of the temporary difference ledger and deferred tax balances.
- Understand and ensure that all uncertain tax positions are communicated and accounted for properly on each assigned legal entity
- Ensure that all taxes payable and receivable are properly reconciled and classified on the balance sheet
- Assist in the preparation of the federal income tax return for each assigned legal entity
- Assist in the preparation of state and local income tax returns as assigned
- Ensure that all applicable SOX 404 controls are maintained and adhered to every quarter
- Assist supervisor and director on income tax special projects including liaison with external consultants.
- Able to complete tax research projects
- Additional responsibilities related to special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from an accredited college or university required
- MBA or Master's level degree (Master's in Accounting, Finance or Master of Taxation) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
- 5-7 years of income tax experience at a professional level in a public accounting firm or corporate tax department required
- Experience in regulated utility income tax accounting preferred
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook required
- Experience with Oracle, PowerPlan/PowerTax and OneSource software products preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment required
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities at a time required
- Ability to perform income tax and accounting research
