GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, responsibilities include the preparation and some review of federal and state income and franchise tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments and periodic tax research memorandums. Serve as tax support to Fifth Third Bancorp entities to meet required tax filing obligations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the completion of timely and accurate federal income tax returns (some light review possible).
Responsible for the completion of timely and accurate complex state income and franchise tax returns including consolidated returns (some light review possible).
Retrieve and assimilate data necessary to calculate tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments.
Prepare accurate and timely allocation journal entries in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Initiate check and EFT requests to prompt payment to appropriate jurisdictions.
Interact with Accounting, Finance, and Line of Business personnel on a continual basis for information relating to the above.
Analysis and review of the tax treatment of specific areas such as leasing, mortgage banking & capital markets.
Assist with the quarterly review of the federal and state income tax provision journal entries.
Analyze state franchise tax accruals and prepare required journal entries.
Calculate and maintain deferred income tax balances and taxes payable/receivable for inclusion in published financial statements.
Oversee the recording of tax accounting journal entries.
Reconcile and prepare analysis on general ledger tax accounts and reserves.
Research areas of tax law as appropriate including analysis of data related to the issue.
Research corporate tax issues of law raised during the return preparation, both federal and state.
Research corporate tax issues of law raised during tax audits, both federal and state.
Provide assistance with answering Information Document Requests for both federal and state audits.
Interact with the Director of Tax Audits to review tax calculations and provide support for audit issues.
Responsible for assisting in performing various special projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities. However, the position is responsible for providing guidance and feedback to less experienced analysts within the department.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (Accounting preferred).
CPA or Master’s Degree (or working toward) preferred or additional commensurate experience.
At least 4 years full-time experience in the field of taxation in either public accounting or in a corporate tax department.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel
Understanding of tax return preparation software (preferably CorpTax).
Knowledge of tax research products including online research products.
This position requires excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with personnel ranging from staff to senior management.
Ability to work both individually and as a member of a team.
Ability to work in professional and dynamic environment.
Demonstrate sound judgment as well as apply logical/critical thought processes.

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
