Job Summary
This position will join the existing tax compliance and reporting team in preparation, review and monitoring of tax compliance and reporting obligations in respect of the non-US operations of NBCUniversal International, covering 150+ entities in over 30 territories internationally. Job Description
Key Position Responsibilities
Direct Tax support across the NBCU International businesses
▪ Corporate taxes:
o Assisting with the UK tax compliance process for 50+ entities, including preparation/review of accounts provisions, tax disclosures and UK tax returns
o Assisting with ongoing coordination of the outsourced international tax compliance in respect of 100+ entities worldwide
o Coordination of BEPS compliance incl. preparation of CbCr data and notifications
o Coordinating and monitoring the compliance tracking tool and internal tax return library
o Dealing with HMRC correspondence, notices, etc. and following up as appropriate
o Allocation of UK group losses and calculation of quarterly installment payments
o Assistance with UK Corporate Interest Restriction (CIR) calculations
o Preparation/review of quarterly and annual US GAAP tax reporting
o Preparation / maintenance of tax calculation templates, FIN48 and SOX404 documentation
o Calculating return to provision true ups for the international businesses
o Liaise with finance contacts and external service providers
o Preparation/analysis of group summaries by business line and by territory
o Review and understanding differences between US and UK GAAP
o Coordination and review of Creative Industries tax credits and R&D expenditure credits
▪ Withholding taxes (“WHT”):
o Preparation and coordination of tax clearances applications (to receive royalty payments at reduced rates of WHT)
o Liaising with HMRC to request certificates of residence, certification of special forms and other ad hoc requirements
o Liaising with FinOps team to investigate over- and under- deductions of WHT
o Responding to queries (from business / collections teams) in connection with WHT application
o Assisting with reconciling expected and actual WHT positions for quarterly US GAAP reporting
o Withholding Tax administration (preparing clearance forms / residency certificate requests)
o Dispute resolution in respect of customer WHT deductions
General Tax Team Support:
▪ Process improvement & automation across tax processes
▪ Supporting the wider tax team as appropriate in areas commensurate with experience
▪ Possibility to get involved with other ad-hoc work including:
o Co-ordination with the Sky tax team on group tax matters
o Management of compliance issues in respect of mobile employees
o Tax audits
o Transfer pricing implementation
o Entity eliminations
o Group structuring
o Dividend and repatriation planning
o Property transactions
o CFC reviews
Required skills/knowledge and qualifications
Essential:
▪ Professional qualification in accounting (ACA or equivalent).
▪ 1-3 years’ post-qualification Corporate Tax experience, including tax accounting experience.
▪ Strong Corporate Tax compliance background with experience of large UK and multinational groups and use of tax return preparation software
▪ Awareness of international tax issues
▪ Strong Excel skills (ability to manage/manipulate high volumes of data is essential for this role).
▪ Strong communication skills, ability to communicate tax concepts to a non-tax audience and finance teams in overseas territories.
Desired:
▪ Knowledge of US GAAP tax accounting
▪ Big 4 or mid-tier firm background
▪ Commercial experience in the Entertainment/Media sector
