In this highly visible role, you’ll be a key tax partner within a growing, multi‑entity, multi‑state manufacturing organization. You’ll own critical tax accounting and compliance processes, proactively manage tax risk, and collaborate across Finance, Operations, HR, and external advisors. This role offers meaningful ownership, technical depth, and the opportunity to improve and modernize processes—not just maintain them.
What You’ll DoIncome Tax Provision & Federal/State Compliance- Prepare and review income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740, partnering closely with external tax advisors.
- Evaluate, document, and monitor uncertain tax positions.
- Support federal and multi‑state corporate income tax compliance, including apportionment calculations and nexus analysis.
- Assist with audit support and responses for federal and state income tax examinations.
- Support the preparation and calculation of federal and state estimated tax payments.
- Prepare LIFO inventory calculations, coordinating with external specialists as needed.
- Identify and help document applicable tax credits and incentives (e.g., R&D, investment, and state incentives).
- Own the preparation and timely remittance of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax filings.
- Maintain and reconcile sales and use tax accrual accounts.
- Partner with operations, procurement, and AP to ensure correct taxability determinations and reduce use tax exposure.
- Support state and local sales and use tax audits, including managing information requests.
- Drive continuous improvement, automation, and process efficiency in the sales and use tax function.
- Coordinate preparation and communication of quarterly shareholder tax estimates.
- Assist with shareholder‑related accounting entries, reconciliations, and inquiries.
- Prepare payroll‑related journal entries and maintain payroll balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support internal and external audit requests related to payroll accounting.
- Partner with HR and Accounting to strengthen payroll controls and processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive tax experience (public accounting and/or corporate tax).
- Strong hands‑on experience with ASC 740 income tax provisions.
- Experience with multi‑state corporate income tax and sales and use tax compliance.
- Experience with LIFO accounting and related tax reporting.
- Solid accounting foundation, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and U.S. GAAP application in a structured close environment.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines independently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- CPA, or active CPA candidate with all exam sections passed and license pending.
- Public accounting tax experience (Big 4 or large regional firm strongly preferred).
- Manufacturing industry experience.
- Experience partnering with external tax advisors and audit teams.
- Experience supporting shareholder reporting and payroll accounting.
