The Senior Tax Accountant is in charge of overseeing and managing federal and state income tax compliance, forecasting, and reporting. Conducts tax research and provides strategic tax planning guidance to senior management.
Responsibilities:
- Gathers and prepares data/information necessary to compute quarterly and year-end taxable income.
- Gathers information for computing state apportionment factors, including assisting in the computation of the apportionment factors.
- Gathers and reviews fixed asset information necessary to generate tax basis fixed asset reporting.
- Initial examination of Federal and State income and franchise tax returns as prepared by an outside provider.
- In charge of various tasks in support of tax return/tax provision preparation process (e.g., updating partnership investment tax bases and Schedules K-1 tracking).
- Responds to tax-related inquiries received from corporate business units.
- Assists with the quarterly estimated income tax process, including the generation of journal entries and the timely request of payments.
- Assists with tax provision and tax basis balance sheet computations.
- Periodically computes corporate taxable income forecasts.
- Provides support for Federal and State income tax audits by gathering and organizing requested information and preparing any tax calculations and/or analyses that may be necessary in connection with the audit.
- Prepares certain federal, state, and foreign tax forms and/or returns that are handled in-house.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (Master’s Degree preferred).
- Licensed CPA (or currently in the process of sitting for the CPA exam) is preferred.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of large corporation income tax experience at a CPA firm and/or in-house corporate tax department. (Big 4 accounting firm experience preferred.)
- High level of proficiency using MS Office products.
- Experience using tax research software, One Source tax provision software, and Alteryx is preferred.
- Solid verbal, written, and organizational skills are a must.
- Must be flexible and adaptable while working under strict deadlines.
- Ability to cooperate/collaborate on a departmental and cross-functional basis to enable team to reach established goals.
- Experience working on insurance company and/or partnership tax matters is a plus.
