The Senior Systems Engineer role sits within the Engineering community comprising Systems, Electronics, Mechanical, and Software engineers for the delivery of these solutions and services.
The position will employ engineering management skills, knowledge and competencies to ensure completion of project engineering tasks within committed cost, schedule, performance and quality expectations as
part of a co-engineering team comprising internal multi-discipline, and where applicable, intra-group and external stakeholders.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you are accountable for:

  • Managing of all of the engineering, design, development and integration activity within the project, ensuring all key commitments are met (Scope, Cost, Quality, Schedule, Risk)

  • Provide direction, expert advice, mentoring, and workflow management (including task prioritisation and resource coordination) in support of achieving project objectives and milestones

  • Provide guidance to technical teams with regard to integration, technical and configuration matters aligned to the agreed architecture, to ensure effectiveness whilst meeting customer requirements

  • Optimise technical work, focusing on the efficiency of project execution (structure, roles, interfaces), organising system engineering reviews and participating in those of lower-level solution elements, from design to validation and acceptance

  • Define and apply the system development cycle and the process, practices and tools applicable to the project

  • Identify/Review risks, and propose effective solutions; execute mitigation actions and report on outcomes / cost savings and residual risks

  • Participate in technical reviews, workshops, peer reviews and project reviews as appropriate for the program

  • Produce/Review Engineering Cost estimates for any modification proposals to the functional baseline in the context of projects/bids

KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated the following knowledge and experience:

  • One (or more) of Mechanical/Mechatronics, Software, Electronics/Electrical or Systems engineering degree and able to meet the requirements for membership of IEAust.

  • Chartered Professional Engineer – Engineers Australia (or able to achieve) and/or INCOSE CSEP

  • At least 5 years of experience in a Defence or Major project environment at a senior level.

  • A strong background in systems engineering, software development or hardware development.

  • Practical experience in all phases of the Systems Engineering Life Cycle, processes and principles.

  • Practical experience in requirements development, requirements management and the use of requirements tools.

  • Experience of integration, verification, validation, qualification engineering

  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

Skills Required

  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software, Electronics/Electrical, or Systems Engineering
