Role Description
The role of Engineer, Performance and Optimisation will contribute to the business optimisation of SES by reviewing system performance, identifying best practices and implementation gaps by taking action to resolve those gaps. You will acquire deep understanding of GEO HTS satellite, MEO and other orbits architectures including the key aspects of end-to-end system optimization. They will develop system analysis methods, report regularly on system performances, and propose improvements having a direct impact on SES revenues and profitability.
You will lead technical implementation projects associated with the automation of system resource optimisation. These projects will involve multiple SES teams.
As a Senior Engineer, Performance and Optimisation, your responsibilities will include:
- Assist in the preparation of Line-ups for the MEO systems for multiple type of terminals and commercial requests.
- Run simulations with systems software tools owned by the team (SCS, ASPM NG, MEOCAP, etc) and provide analyses and KPIs to respond to Sales and Solution Engineering feasibility requests
- Propose development that will allow system improvement and unlocking of Mbps
- Support the development of new tools for current and next generation systems to allow SES to automate the network design and network provision processes effectively.
- Ability to troubleshoot a customer link performance and understand what the root cause of an outage or degradation by reviewing key measured data, running link budgets.
- Interacting with different teams at SES including Asset management to support in identifying available capacity and building business planning through constellation planning and defining operating limits.
- Have a deep understanding of HTS satellite architectures including the key aspects of end-2-end system optimization.
- Maintain expertise by training on upcoming system
- Develop scripts and work with data to meet various needs related to end-2-end systems performance & optimization.
- Develop new portals in Power Bi and/or Splunk to highlight services KPI and inconsistencies
- Propose new developments and enhancements to the SES software suite to assist with modelling and analysis of customers systems
- Work on additional systems and performance tasks as needed.
- Grow to become the SME for Operations on SES software related platforms
- Liaise with Operations and Sales Engineering to confirm proper and optimal configuration of each user service considering customer experience and SES resources
- Provide on-call support during certain periods
Your profile :
- MUST HAVE
- Master's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent field
- More than 5 years of experience in satellite communication industry including VSAT systems, RF systems, SATCOM Baseband, satellite ground-based antennas, Network Management, and Modem systems equipment
- Experience in data modelling using different tools (i.e. Power BI)
- Python or other programming experience
- Fluency in English
- Excellent organizational skills
- Solid writing skills for technical documents including specifications and studies
- Technical Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve issues.
- Service Monitoring: Ensures consistent delivery of service standards.
- Trend Analysis: Identifies trends, forecasts needs, and implements improvements.
- Communication & Influence: Effectively compiles, interprets, and presents complex information.
- Collaboration: Works openly and supportively with others, sharing ideas and solving problems.
- Complex Problem Solving: Analyses diverse issues to minimize risks and find root causes.
- Change & Innovation: Promotes and supports change, leveraging opportunities for technological advancement.

- Any other regional language being an asset
- Coding and Database management skills as a plus
OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS
- Preference to candidates eligible for a "SECRET" security clearance, in accordance with the "loi modifiée du 15 juin 2004 relative à la classification des pièces et aux habilitations de sécurité", as well as EU/ESA/NATO equivalents
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the working time
- Willingness to work weekends or evenings during peak workload periods
- Willingness to work on call as required
