About the Role
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for operating, integrating, and evolving Elsevier’s enterprise AI platforms. You’ll handle complex escalation issues, ensure AI systems are reliable, secure, and compliant, and drive best‑practice adoption across engineering, security, and product teams. Responsibilities

AI Platform Operations

  • Operate and support enterprise AI platforms (e.g. Microsoft Power Platform, ChatGPT, Copilot), ensuring reliability, performance, and secure integration with core systems.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for AI-related incidents, leading root cause analysis, remediation, and continuous improvement of platform resilience.
  • Implement and maintain AI integrations and interoperability, including support for open standards such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
  • Enforce AI governance, security, and compliance, aligning solutions with RELX Responsible AI principles, data protection, and regulatory requirements.
  • Design and maintain automation and CI/CD pipelines to support repeatable, secure deployment and efficient AI operations.
  • Collaborate across engineering, architecture, security, and product teams to align AI standards, tooling, and operational practices.
  • Enable and educate internal teams, contributing to documentation, runbooks, and best practices to support effective and responsible AI adoption.
  • Implement and enforce AI governance and compliance frameworks.

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of AI interoperability standards and frameworks (e.g. Model Context Protocol, Azure AI Services such as Cognitive Search, Azure ML, OpenAI), and/or experience integrating AI capabilities into enterprise platforms including Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio), or comparable experience delivering large-scale enterprise integrations, with a willingness to deepen AI-specific expertise.
  • Experience managing cloud-based enterprise platforms, including automation, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting languages for automation and diagnostics.
