The Senior Systems Analyst (Cloud & DevOps) is a hands-on individual contributor responsible for designing, building, operating, and continuously improving AAAS’s cloud infrastructure and deployment automation platforms. This role focuses on AWS-based systems, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation to support reliable, secure, and repeatable delivery of applications and services.
The incumbent works closely with Application Development, Web Development, Security, and IT Operations teams as a technical peer, owning delivery tooling and automating operational workflows to improve reliability, security, and efficiency across the organization.

What You’ll Do
Cloud Infrastructure & Operations
- Design, deploy, and maintain AWS-based infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Administer and optimize core AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC, and related services.
- Implement security best practices for cloud environments in partnership with IT Security.
- Monitor system health, performance, availability, and costs; proactively address reliability risks.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response for systems owned by the role.
DevOps & CI/CD Enablement
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as GitLab CI or Azure DevOps.
- Partner with development teams to standardize build, deployment, and release workflows.
- Improve deployment safety through automation, testing, validation, and rollback mechanisms.
- Integrate security scanning, secrets management, and compliance controls into pipelines.
Operational Resilience & Documentation
- Document architectures, pipelines, operational procedures, and automation clearly and accurately.
- Produce and maintain “as-built” and “as-operated” documentation to support IT Operations.
Collaboration & Support
- Serve as a technical partner to Application Development, Web Development, and IT Operations teams.
- Provide tiered operational support and troubleshooting for cloud and deployment platforms.
- Participate in infrastructure and platform initiatives aligned with AAAS technology strategy.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration, cloud engineering, or DevOps roles.
- Hands-on experience operating production workloads in AWS or Azure environments
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or equivalent).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and automation practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on root-cause analysis.
- Ability to work independently with defined objectives and broad technical latitude.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across teams without formal authority.
- Discipline in documentation, change management, and following established standards.

AAAS office is based in Washington, DC. Remote work is possible. The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is between $110,000 – $146,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance, each subject to the terms of the applicable program.
